Nine times out of ten they say "how are you today?" At which point I start talking NON-STOP. I say something like, "I'm so glad that you asked, this arthritis is really acting up. The cold weather has it hurting so bad. My back, my hips, my knees. You should see how swollen my joints are..." I keep this up...never stopping. I move on to discuss my hemrrhoids...whatever else I can think of....having the flu..anything!!! They usually hang up rather quickly!!

They probably hate unwanted talks too.

That so funny that you do that, I think the next time I get a telemarketer I am going to do that and talk about anything then see if it stops them from calling back again. Thanks for the tip.

We use to have a problem occasionally with this until we got caller id. Now we only answer phone calls form local numbers and numbers we recognize. We don't pick up for out of state numbers we don't know or 1-800 numbers.

I agree. caller id is very useful for screening unwanted calls.

hmm well most of teh time they way i respond depends on my mood , if im really busy i either just hang up or just tell them really fast that yes im sure its a great offer and i know you have a job to do as well but so do i and i dont have time for this and hang up , or if im not so busy and im in a silly mood ill let them get thru their presentation and then say WOW your really good at this would ya like a better paying job ?? and then tell them what i do for a living :P none of them have signed up to do it yet tho but oh well no biggie :P
hope this helps!

whenever a telamrketer calls you, as soon as you know he is one of 'them', you tell him "err, please hold on a second".
You put the phone down, and you resume whatever you were doing prior to his call. Just ignore him. He will eventually get bored, or get the fact that you won't come back, and end the call.
1- they will be loosing their time and their money on this call, which is bad for them. and What's bad for them is good for us...
2- if you do this several times to the same company, they'll eventually understand that it's useless to call you...
3- imagining the guy waiting like a fool is pretty funny :)
