The highest we've had so far was last summer. It was a approximatly $520. Yeah that about threw us into shock at seeing it. We went through and changed as many things as we could. The next month it went down by a hundred but the big electricity hog was the a/c unit. Here in Florida during the summer you can't get around having that going. It's just too hot and too humid. Believe me we tried to do without and it was miserable. Normally our bills don't run that high but this past summer was very hot.

$500 is way too much for a power bill. Yeah, i know what you mean about the weather in Florida, i use to live there. I moved back up here to south carolina, and the weather is alot better. plus it's not as hot either.

I think the highest ours has ever been is $120.00 and I am home all day. I would freak out if I got a bill that high too. My hubby's uncle called last week and he said something had to be done at his house cause theirs was almost $300. I said I would really freak out if mine was that high and I sure wouldn't be able to pay that.

My bill runs pretty close to the same this year, it has been so cold. Even with wearing sweaters and such we still get chilly. I will say one thing I started washing our clothes in cold water and it did make a difference. Plus I hang dry anything I can to keep from running the dryer.

I have been washing all my clothes in cold water too. But i don't hang up clothes to dry... i really don't have anywhere to hang them up at. I just turn my heat down, so it won't kick on as much when i'm running the dryer. If i dry clothes it seems to keep the house warm.

I think that it would help in this discussion is we stated where we were from. I am on Long Island, in New York. I have a family of 5. My highest electric bill was $347.89! Yes, I freaked. More than 1/2 of my bill was "power delivery charges". Okay????? Just another add on because LIPA cannot legally raise their rates right now because of some agreement. So they added this charge on. Talking to different people I found out that any large appliance that you run (ie: washer, dryer, dishwasher) should be run on off peak hours, meaning before 9 am or after 5 pm. This has cut my bill trememdously. If you run something that draws large amounts of electricity during peak hours, then everything you use during the day (clock radio, toaster oven, microwave, or just anything plugged in) is charged at the higher rate. The entire day! How many things do you have plugged in? Tons. This has cut my bill in half. Hope it helps other people besides me, I've been telling everyone about it!

I sure hope that my power bill doesn't go up next month. It should be getting colder, but hopefully the powerbill will stay lower.

The highest I have ever paid was 200 for a family of 5, the lowest is 89, I monitor everything though. I can't afford for it to go any higher. We make sure lights are off, I use my dryer only at nights and the AC is set on 80 and the heater is set on 65. It works for our family.

I'm glad that that works for your family. i'm going to have to do that and run my dryer at night... maybe that way i don't have to have the heat so high then

Wow! That's really high. My bill has been going up for the last year each month and it's about $110/month from like $87 a year ago andwe don't seem to be doing anything different so I guess maybe it's just inflation.

I'm starting to wonder if the power company ups their bills every year... so we always end up paying more.
