I'm not originally from Ireland although I do have ancestors from there. I've visited twice and I would have to say it is one of my favorite places on the planet. It is so peaceful and beautiful and filled with history. You can drive for hours and never see another human being (but plenty of sheep!). Or you can go into one of the cities and just soak up the charm. I love everything about Ireland, the food, the music, the countryside... it's just the best. I hope you can make it there some day!

Yes, it was fairly expensive. It's been quite a few years since my last visit, and both times it was part of a trip where we visited other parts of Europe as well so I couldn't tell you exactly how much it cost. I did kiss the Blarney Stone which was fun. Blarney castle is in a particularly beautiful spot and the surrounding area is just as interesting as the castle itself.
Other places that stand out as being worth a visit:
St. Stephens Green is a park in Dublin that is absolutely gorgeous! It is full of lakes and stunning displays of flowers.
The Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland is really interesting. If I remember correctly, there are volcanoes under the sea which have caused the strange hexagonal geological formations. You should be able to find some pictures online. Very unusual.
The town of Cobh is very picturesque and has a neat little museum about the Titanic since that was her last port of cal before starting to cross the Atlantic.
I know I'm leaving stuff out. I hope I get a chance to go back someday.
