Oats contain soluble fibre, which slows the rate at which sugar is absorbed into the blood and also reduces blood cholesterol. Raised cholesterol levels are a risk factor associated with diabetes. Pasta, sweet potatoes, and rye bread provide, a slow steady release of energy and they are good source of carbohydrates for those with diabetes. But you need to watch serving sizes. Bananas and grapefruit are good for diabetics as long as you eat them in moderation and in rotation. Whole grain bread, brown rice, whole meal pasta and wholegrain breakfast cereals are rich in insoluble fibre. They supply zinc and chromium which enhances the action of insulin. These foods should be avoided : Sausages, burgers, meat pie and other fatty meat products, butter, cheese and other full-fat dairy products contain significant amounts of saturated fats which can raise blood cholesterol levels. Consumption of these foods needs to be kept to an absolute minimum. I'm a diabetic and I eat almost everything but in moderation.

I am glad I am also doing what you are doing. It is kind of hard and difficult to maintain and control when there are food around you that is your favorite. How I wish they find a cure for it.

Fruits and vegetables are good, but they have to control how much fruit they eat, because some fruits contain more sugar than others (banana, water melon, etc.) Whole grains are good, because fiber helps control the levels of sugar in blood. The foods they should avoid are anything with high carbohydrates, like bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.

High insulin levels occur in the body due to insulin resistance; almost all Indians have the gene for insulin resistance when coupled with high carbohydrate diet with high glycemic index. insulin resistance starts to build up. That means our cells become resistant to insulin increasing blood glucose ....then the pancreas start producing more insulin to control blood sugar. more insulin in the blood more resistant the cells become, more resistant the cells become more insulin pancreas produce setting off a chain reaction... over a period of time lets say 2-3 years the beta cells in the pancreas wear out there by producing less insulin and now the body is used insulin resistant.. so diabetes triggers.. Now the food for diabetes patient is almost the same for insulin resistant people. But most of the nutrition world has got it wrong here... this thing is very debatable as what to take as a diabetic patient. The main focus should be to make the body insulin sensitive this is the best cure for diabetes and when i say cure yes cure diabetes can be cured if a person is ready to take lifestyle changes and have proper food.
