Do you take your dog to a "doggie run"?

I used to but my vet told me not to anymore. He said that everybody and anybody can use them and if another animal is sick, my dog will get it. There is no rules or anyone enforcing them to assure that all the animals there are up to date on shots. I only let her play with the dog next door now, or once in a while my friend will bring her dog over, but at least I know that these dogs are well and vaccinated.

We use to take our akitas to the dog run almost daily but where we live it is too far away now. we take them a few times a year though. The love to be able to run. That is a good point about the possiblity of them being able to pick something up though. I also worry about the liability issues of other dogs getting hurt. Our akitas are well behaved but you never know what might happen with another dog.

The dog parks where I live require you to purchase a pass, and pets have to be fully vaccinated before they are allowed in the park.
Most dogs that live in good homes don't get sick very easily. Dogs in shelters can get sick because they are in a highly stressful environment.
I used to foster sick dogs from the shelter, and brought home dozens of dogs with URIs and other easily spread illnesses, and MY dogs NEVER ONCE got sick - even though they were LIVING with a sick dog. Their immune systems were strong enough to fight it.
