I was opening the sugar bag this morning for my coffee, and once again I spilled sugar everywhere...I was so annoyed...Does this bother you too??? What would be a good type of package for sugar so it wouldn't spill everywhere?? They have packed sugar in these paper bags for years and there should be a better way...I am going to write the sugar companies and suggest this, so give me some ways to pack sugar so it doesn't spill and you can get all the sugar out...

Ohhh another coffee drinker...I understand what you mean...That happens to me as well.. I say they should have sugar bag or boxes with the lil lid you just open it and it comes out...With everything else that be changing in the world you would think that they would of upgraded the sugar huh...lol

Paper bag is not so good for packing sugar, in my place we use plastic packs, thick enough so as not to spill it. However perhaps your country try not to use plastics and opt to use bio degradable materials. Garbage is one big problem that we face now, so using bio degradable materials are the best options. Tin cans can be used to pack them but it will also increase the cost. Your best option is to bring a more durable bag specially for your sugar, when you go for your grocery purchases, that way you will not spill your sugar again.

pic of the sugar i like - sugar
Yes I think it is silly and I'm suprised they have not changed over time. I use this sugar in the picture. It's from Walmart and it only costs a dollar. Makes my life a little easier.

Your welcome. Yes I buy one of these every month or so so it is pretty easy to not mess about with the bags. I am the only coffee drinker in the family and it is the only thing I use the sugar for :)

Your discussion made me laugh. When I was doing my baking this past month, I took a bag of sugar off a high shelf and got sugar in my eyes, hair and clothing. The packaging needs to be improved on not only sugar, but flour as well. The only thing I have found that keeps it from spilling is to open it over the canister. Even so, there are many granules that seem to wind up on the counter or floor.

We transfer our sugar into a plastic container. It lasts longer and doesn't spill. Maybe the issue isn't so much with the fact that the bag is paper; after all, it doens't tear; but with the fact that the top is closed in a fold and there isn't much extra space. Flour bags are also paper but they dont' seem to spill as much.

you could pay for the sugar that comes in the plastic container. The only problem with that is I think it's $2 more and 1 lb less. I save all my empty coffee containers and buy the super size bag at Sam's. When I get home I make one big sugar mess filling up containers. LOL

Domino Sugar - now comes in a plastic cannister
You know, locally one of the Save-A-Lot stores or Aldi's (not sure which) carried Domino brand sugar in a plastic container, much like coffee. I love it! I wish they'd ALL start doing that! It was a little under the typical size for a bag of sugar, I'm sure that's how they paid for the container but to me it was worth it! A pic is below of the container itself.

we have two steel lidded bins. one big one to hold the entire packet of sugar and a little one that needs refilling now and then. but it is better to handle sugar this way than handling the sugar packets. it means mess just the first time when you are filling up the big bin.

Yes, I do that Malsun, but you still have to open the packet in the first place, to dispense it into the containers. I still spill sugar on opening the package to transfer it into the containers.

Here is what you need to do. Two things possible. 1. Get a friend to open that bag for you from now on. :) 2. Put the entire bag into another bag while you open it so that the second bag catches the contents of the first bag. :)

So you are going to come to my house when I need the bag opened ...lol So I use another bag ...now that is going to cost me more ...lol But at least I can use the sugar instead of it being all over the counter and floor ...thanks

I remember having that problem myself back when I could still eat regular sugar.. gah! I am sorry that it happened to you :/ I think that I am lucky that now the only sugar I can use are sugar substitutes, like Splenda. Splenda tends to come either in packets (which do sometimes spill a bit if you rip them open less carefully - but I've gotten a good method going for opening them carefully, lol!) or else in nice boxes with a little spout to pour the Splenda out of. Perhaps they should package granulated sugar this way, as well. It would no doubt be a bit more expensive, but it would be worth it not to have it spill all over the place! ^_^

Oh! It is really annoying when you spilt the sugar everywhere. Have you ever considered to pack the sugar in a glass or steel container with a little hole on the top. When you use sugar, you can dump the sugar through the hole, so that you will not spill the sugar..

Here is a trick that helps me. I pull up one flap only and then I use sciccers to cut the tip out of that flap. Then I just pout it in my canister. I have a scoop in my canister to use after I open my bag. by cutting the tip off, it pours right out. some sugar come sin plastic containers like coffee does now.

I hate that! I always open the suger and flour bags over the sick, because it never fails that sugar or flour goes everywhere. I think a resealable zip lock bag would be really awesome.

A resealable bag that zipped closed would be much better than the paper bags they use now ...thanks for your great suggestion... :)

I wouldn't know, I have yet to spill sugar out of these bags. I open them at the top and pour them into a plastic container. Then I just fold down the top until I use the rest out of the bag. In my grocery store they also sell cardboard containers that look like milk jugs. They are spill proof and resealable. They are the same amount but cost more because of the container I guess. Try looking for those where you live. Good luck.

sugar bags - Sugar bags are splitting packets when we try to open it hardly.
Opening of sugar bags are simple but split around the place when we open it. To overcome this situation keep the sugar bag inside a big bag inside it and then you can open it so that you can get the sugars without splitting outside. ok

I rarely use sugar these days .. but I agree when you open a new bag .. every new bag there is always some sugar spilling out .. and we have loads of alternatives .. there are the cardboard drums with push on lids that some hot choclate drinks come in .. jars both plastic and glass .. cheap disposable plastic tubs similar to those that the big sizes of margarine come in ... And while you are revolutionising he sugar people can you do the same with the flour companies .. I'm always getting flour everywhere .. I do decant my flour and sugar into plastic storage containers .. but still manage to make a mess when opening the new bags ...

How about a milk-carton type container? You could open the cap, pour out just what your need, or put all of it into a canister. Where are the sugar container manufacturers?
