Safe mode is a debugging startup mode where all the extensions that you have installed for firefox are disabled & default theme is used. In firefox 1.5 or later, Safe mode has been enhanced to include some troubleshooting options like resetting toolbars, bookmarks & prefrences to default settings when Firefox is restarted.
