The other night I recieved a horrible call from a lady saying my dog was hit by a car. I was thinking all of my dogs are here what are they talking about. They said Timber!!! I gave my gilfriend one of my dogs a year ago because it was not getting along with my other dog. I could not believe it, I immediately gave them her phone number. She still had my tags on her. I asked the lady her condition and she said her eye socket was popped out her leg is possibly broken and there is blood coming out of her nose and mouth. I WAS BALLING!!! She is a full breed husky/red and white. I then proceeded to tell my husband we were so shocked and I could not stop crying. I called the lady back that was there with Timber and I told her to make sure the owners my previous friend took her to the animal hospital.I cried myself to sleep she, apparently ran off when they were fixing their fence. I did not sleep. The next morning I tried to call the animal hospital and she was no longer there. The vet said I would have to call my friend. Me and my friend broke off the relationship about six months ago but I had to see if she lived. I swallowed my pride and called and she said no broken bones . She told me she is sore and has stiches above her eye. I was very relieved but the bad thing is I do not believe her . She still has not got her shots after a year or changed her tags. I feel she is in bad shape and there is more wrong with her but she does not want to take her to the vet because of the expenses. I feel so guilty and horrible. I have 3 children and 3 dogs I cannot help. What should I do?

It is definitely a tough one, especially since the two of you are not on the best of terms. However, this was your dog once and feel that you are within your rights to ask if you may come over and see the dog. Tell her that you are so happy that the dog is alive and you just need to see her and touch her. Tell her that you have been crying and just need to ease your mind. Hopefully, you will get to see the dog and you can assess the situation. Remember, sometimes when an animal is injured, it is not what it seems. I thought my dog dislocated her hip and she didn't, but from the angle of her leg, I was sure that she had. Also, while you are visiting, just mention that you didn't mind being contacted about the accident, but could she please change the dogs tags so that she is contacted, because it is much more important that SHE be aware if something happens to the dog. Maybe bring her one, I believe they are only a few dollars, but I know that sometimes even a few dollars is out of reach! Good luck and let us know what you do and how it turns out!

Since the dog still has the tags that has your information on them instead of your friends I would try calling the vet again that took care of the dog and see if you can get all the information about the dog from the vet. To me it sounded more serious than what your old friend told you. I do understand that some animals can live through some horrible trauma, but to me it sounds as if this person took the dog out from the vets office to soon after being hit by a car. So yeah definately try to get ahold of the vet and if they won't give any information try to stop by your friend's house and take a look for yourself. And make this person get their own tags for the dog, cause with this person not giving the animal appropriate vet care she can easily pin it on you since it is your address and phone on the tags.
