Mylot searches??

I have tried 100 times to do searches on Mylot for certain topics and it always tells me that it has no results for the searches. Does this happen to you?
Because after I start a discussion, when you go to bottom of page, there are similar discussions! Why isn't this search engine pulling those up??? Maybe this could be the reason so many people are repeating discussions?
I just complained about that earlier in a topic I started. LOL. But, I've also seen where people have referred to using it with no problems, is mine the only one that's "broken?"

I don't come up with no results that often, but I have definitely tried to search for things before posting them and have not come up with things that are right there. Case in point, one time I posted about a news story and a day later found out that someone on my friend list had posted about it like a day before me, but I had not known and had honestly tried to use the search engine to find out if anyone had posted about that topic before I posted it. So I don't think that the search function is the best in the world, lol! But I do try to use it before I post something. ^_^

the searching software is a costley one if it's effective so i think mylot dont like to spend money on a search engine so just put an ordinary search engine to work but not working good...

I haven't been here long but have used the search several times and it worked for me, only pulled a few posts but they fit my search exactly.

I have tried the searches a few times especially when I want to see if something has been copied. It worked a few times but now, I get irrelevant topics coming up my my search. I thought I was doing something wrong.

Me too! I thought I was having trouble because I was a newbie. I don't understand it either. The search does say all, tags or discussions. I would assume that meant it did an indepth search.

i think myLot need to have a kind of ChaCha.com search engine where us members could help each others searches and earn from it. wouldn't it be great!

I do searches all the time as sometimes i do find the topic I want to talk about but other times I do not find anything. After I create a topic, I see at the bottom something similar to my topic but not the same and the question is always different. We should remember that a certain topic can have many different questions related to it. If we find something on the searches, we should not duplicate that same question. We can ask a different question relating to the topic but not the same one or same idea.

When I first signed up I conscientiously did searches before posting a new discussion .. but as I rarely came up with anything only to find once I'd posted my 'unique' discussion that several more on almost identical topics had already been posted I gave up doing the searches ..
Getting the right information from doing a search really depends on using the right words to search with .. and as I wasn't searching every word in both my header and write up I was clearly missing the actual word that would have shown me a discussion had already been started ...
I think the search feature is a bit too hit and miss to be really useful .. more use would be a really concise index of the topics available (and better control over people adding in their own interests) .. then we could easily search by the index ..

i think that is one use of the tags we type before finally posting an article. i have tried this one yet but i guess there is nothing i can do once i already posted it and afterwhich i find out that there exists similar topics. that's why most of the time i post responses, to avoid duplication of topics. ^_^
