i bought a copy of windows xp pro which turned out to be counterfit. THe store i bought it from refuses to accept it as a return becuase the box is already open. obvioiusly after spending that kind of money on it the first time, i cant afford to go out and buy it again. Now i get messages saying my copy isnt genuine and it is slowing down my pc. My question is, would you give your license code to someone in my situation? have you ever been in a situation like that before?

You bought a counterfit? How is that even possible? What kind of store were you shopping at, a thrift store? Was it sealed or not? It could have been a used registration code from someone that used a keygen to steal a copy.

If your copy was brand new in the box from a major store, your code shouldn't have been used alreay. If this is a major sote, you should call the customer service number for the store and complain. I'd bet if you get the right person or a manager you will get a refund.
