The internet gives a fine selection of games, but there is nothing to beat the satisfaction of whipping up the board, scattering all the pieces, when you can't get your own way and cheat lol. Only kidding.
Seriously, do you still play board games, and which ones are your very favourite?

Ah, aren't they rotten losers! I must admit I love monopoly too, are you in the States, and are your street names different over there? We have famous London names such as The Old Kent Road and Mayfair.

are the Boardwalk and Park Place from the same district? All our names come from famous London Streets. It is very interesting to me as I have only ever seen the UK version.

I like scrabble, an old favourite but lately we have really enjoyed Postman Pats Parcel game, it's aged 4+ and my obys love it, it's a balancing game really putting parcels on and taking them off, first with all their parcels piled up wins, really good fun!!!!!

Yes, it is great to learn so many words, but are you never curious as to what they mean? I am sooooooooooooo nosey. I have another window open for one look dictionary and I look up any word I do not know a meaning for. I don't remember them all unfortunately, it must be abeolutely fantastic to have a huge vocabulary!
As to the postman game I am going to look out for it. I have no children, but who cares lol. You got the best response because it was lol.

aaaaaaaaaah! Postman Pat sounds like great fun, I wish we had had that when I was younger. I like scrabble too, but I get into fights as I know all sorts of obscure words and then when they ARE in the dictionary . . .

I belong to a city sponsored Scrabble club. We meet every other Saturday in the Library downtown. I cant find anyone else - not even my husband. He says its "boring" (as in doesnt involve blood and guts ilike a video game does). Whatever happened to family game nights?

That is great, you get a night out and a hobby and exercise your brain all in one go! Yes, men can be so easily bored lol.
Family game nights are possible if you arrange them yourself. I used to be on a Club committee and I often organised them and people enjoyed them very much, but nobody ever wanted to help to run them lol.

Chess and scrabble seem to be the favourites at the moment. Do you play at an level or are you a fun player, as I would be if my brother would let me make more than about three moves before he check mates!

My favorite game of all time is CLUEDO.I love mysteries...but I saw a boardgame which you can give as a gift for newlyweds..It's called LOVOPOLY,they customize it using the bride & groom's photos.I think it's really nice.

Yes, Cleudo is a really fascinating game. I don't want to know where you live but I wonder whether you are in the UK or USA as an earlier reply regarding monopoly said that all the streets are named differently in the USA and I wondered if there is a USA version which names everyone differently?
As to the lovopoly, now THAT is a fantastic idea and a lovely gift for a bride and groom!

an intellectual! My brother plays chess and I blame him in that I can not play. He was the school champion so every game I ever started ended in check mate in about three moves maximum.
Do you play often, and do you play a real person or do you prefer the virtual ones on the web.

Yes, I still play board games, nagged by my son and his kids. lol. My favourites are still Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. You can keep your Monopoly... I've fallen asleep by the time I've bough a hotel and place it on site. ha ha ha.
The kids have their favourites of course and I can't remember all the names of them, but they're mostly quizzical ones. I just join in when they want to play, which is quite often, I must admit, but fair dos.
Thank you for this discussion Shelagh, and Brightest Blessings.

Scrabble is a very popular game and yes, we do have some arguments in our household when somebody comes up with a strange word, and everyone is cross when the word IS in the dictionary lol. Chess is also very popular, most people who have replied enjoy chess. Thank you for replying :-)

I always play board games with my boyfriend and best friend. Haha. We mostly like them because they are slightly childish, though. My actual favourite is probably Monopoly, even though it takes way too long. The one that I think I have the most fun playing is Candyland. Haha.
