My guess is that the band is in recording mode right now. The latest new from the band are related to the release of a tribute album to italian composer Ennio Morricone, who wrote the song "Ecstasy of Gold". This song has been used by Metallica as their intro song at their shows for many years, and they decided to record a cover of that song, which will be featured on the tribute album. Nothing is up there yet though, and as it has been mentioned by another person on this thread, they're still going on with the recording process of the new album. I think they'll already have some dates for Europe anyway, possibly Wacken Open Air...
