Well, I do believe it would be a good idea, but also, people may just type nonsense words that are not logical, or you may get a never ending post, just because the person KNOWS each word counts. Also, the only way to do that, would to make sure it was counting actual words, which means if you happen to misspell or misstype a word you wouldn't get rewarded for that word, which would stink. And of course, our foriegn friends would have even MORE problems making money. But On the other hand, it would make for more quality discussions, and problably alot of less misspelled words, and more intelligent answers. It's a toss up, there are good and bad points to doing something like that.

When I joined mylot, I was under the impression that one word comments were not allowed nor was one sentence discussions. I am finding that there are lot of these on mylot. I work hard on my discussions. I was so glad when I could start copy and paste because I was just making too many typos. I like to do my discussion on word and them copy and paste to mylot. That way I can spell check.
I am not sure if paying by the word would help or hurt the quality of the articles. People may just find 10 sentances to say the same thing. LOL That may make for some pretty boring discussions. LOL

Well I can see good and bad in it. It would probably do away with the one line responses well then again, it probably wouldn't. You don't get paid from them now and people still do it. But I see where it could be good in that we would have lengthy responses. Would they then just contain filler??? I think it would be a nice idea for mylot to pay some kind of bonus for those that catch scammers, cheaters and spammers. Maybe there could be some lottery like of the earnings they lose. I don't know, but something needs to get rid of them because it's really getting on everyone's nerves...lol

That sounds like a very good idea, but considering me who prefers one-line, straight-to-the point responses, I think that wouldn't give me enough credit. Nevertheless, it would help me, especially to elaborate on things than giving general answers. Way to go!

Well, yours is just 2 sentences! The problem with word count is that some people would pad their writing with unnecessary verbiage just to pad their check, and the quality of writing would go down even farther. A long time ago, I learned that when doing serious writing, if I could reduce the word count by 15% after the first draft, the final product was usually much improved. Paying by the word would not encourage good writing!
However, I think there should be some kind of bonus for people who do real writing that involves actual paragraphs of the kind your college freshman comp instructor would have approved!
I have taken to ignoring the one-liner questions that masquerade as discussions.

Instead we might have long goofy responses, I mean like answers to our questions instead of being specific would be prolific and that would just be a valuable waste of Dasd and it would take up too much storage too.
Personally, I think that it is not a good idea unless you want to read terrible redundent answers like above.

that's not a bad idea..again if people don't abuse it and post non stop drivle..but it could work if they say we have to post a minimum of two or three lines..the absolute minimum..the there would not be the replies like i got today..one word yes..i still plus rated it lol cos they still bothered to reply..hehe

I think it would be great, seems like sometimes I get truly involved in some discussions and I can get a bit wordy. Count me in on that one. Unsure about the short goofy discussions, I think those will continue to come, no matter what we do, just as there will always be someone who does not agree with your opinion and announces it to you on myLot.

Good idea for the people who are not spamming mylot and an ever better idea for the spammers (Which makes it a bad idea for the good lot. LOL.). In short, that would only make spammers copy/paste long useless stuff off the internet - a word count and NOT allowing copy/paste MIGHT work. what do you say ? anyone who puts time and effort into writing that much - would rather write something that makes sense.

That sounds ok, but I think there should probably be a range of words which get a bonus, too many words can just be a load of rubbish, just as much as too little. I think I suggested around 60 words in a previous post about MyLot quality, and I would stand by that say 40-80 words would get a maximum earning and progressively less for more than that (or less than that).
It's possible that MyLot already has an internal word counter as part of the algorithm which works out how much to pay out. I have read some people say that they get paid more if they have more words in their responses.

I say yes because it would help with unelaborate or understandable posts. But no because people ramble about nonsense and go completely off topic, and it's just stupid. Plus people may not read through a disscussion topic, because the poster made it so long for extra money that no one want's to read the whole thing to respond.

I think it would be a GREAT idea! Why? I constantly respond to discussions with NO one liners. I sit there, think up great answers, and respond well.
Then I dont get paid much more than a penny a posts. I am over 500 mark and still a penny a posts? I sometimes write BIG HUGE things and I might get $.02 a posts. It really sucks!
I wish they'd pay attention to this fact. I NEVER do one liners and I always write with helpful thoughts. I hate this. Its why I am NOT stressing anymore. If I do 20 posts a day its fine as 30. I am not gonna work my butt off for 3 or 4 hrs to find I got less than the same amount of posts day before. Why?

While I tend to be a very verbose (and hopefully appropriately on topic) poster sometimes, which would make a word count payout absolutely wonderful for me :), I don't think it would be a good idea in general. It might do away with one word responses and short goofy responses, but you'd see an increase in long goofy responses. I'd rather see short goofy rather than long goofy, because the short goofy take less time to read/skim :). I do think the idea of a minimum word count that was posted earlier would be a better idea.
My $0.02 at the moment.

Wow, great idea. I like it. But, it may back fire, and some people would ramble on and on and make no sense and get reduntant for the word count.

It might, but then again you may get someone posting a bunch of nonsense to increase their wording. People need to read the topic of discussion and stick to the discussion.

I suppose it would have its advantages and disadvantages. I have seen some discussions and responses that are full of the 'F' word and I don't think people whould be paid for using it. It might also make discussions and responses too long and turn them into Epistles. I really don't like reading topics that are too long, as I tend to forget the first part, by the time I have reached the end.
