Are you smart?

Do you think you are smart, average, or below average? Does it matter? Does it bother you? I think I am smart. If I work hard at something I can usually succeed. It really bothers me when people act stupid when they really aren't. People just don't take the time to really think about something or they aren't motivated. I believe most people are at least average, but it all depends on how you decide to use your brain.

I dont consider myslef smart but Heavenly Father did bless me with many talents. I am not dumb either. I think people have different ways of being smart. Some are book smart, some are life smart and some have talents that make them smart in various ways.

I think I have a lot of common sense, but as far as intellect goes in the terms that most people measure it, I'd say I'm pretty average. I score average on most tests and have about zero interest in doing anything about it! lol I graduated with a BA from a university, so that's good enough for me. I don't care to impress anyone anyway. ;) The only thing that I do find frustrating with the brain God gave me is that I'm terrible with math. I'm actually great with adding and subtracting figures quickly... don't even need a calculator, just do it in my head, but give me any type of equation or story problem and you might as well forget it! My brain doesn't bend that way!

I think you can measure smarts in different ways. Like you said, you can be great at one skill and horrible at another, but still be a smart person.

When I was in High School I didn't really apply myself-- I always got A's & B's but I was never a straight A student. I just was more into partying & having fun than worrying about school work. I think I was prob' an average student but I know I could have been way more. When I got to college I got Straight A's various semesters & that's when I knew that I just wasn't applying myself & when I did-- I got good results. I think that alot of people would find that if they do apply themselves, especially in a field that they enjoy that they would be shocked to see how smart they are!

There are some things that I'm very smart about. Stretching a dollar, providing for my family, getting what needs to be done finished. If I need to learn something new, I can. There are many things that I know nothing about so when someone is talking about them, if it's interesting to me, I'll learn more about it and then feel at least a little enlightened. I don't ever consider myself to be stupid. If I have a mind to, I can learn anything that truly interests me.

LOL, Are you suggesting that I'm stupid? Let's just say I have made some SMART decisions and some STUPID mistakes. Does that make me average? Oh, no I am so confused, I must be STUPID! hehehe

The question of intelligence has been an issue for me my entire life. As children, my brother and I had vastly different scores on an IQ test. The results were devastating. Granted, the family we were in was horribly abusive anyway, but the difference in our intelligence just became one more weapon for them. As a result, I was driven to "live up to my genius potential" even though severe health problems made it impossible for me to finish college. He was made to believe he was "intellectualy inferior" and pushed more towards anything physical that didn't require much fault. As far as I'm concerned, neither of us is any better for it. I've been accused of not living up to my intelligence my entire life. I have the stereotypical lack of common sense that is associated with genius, to the point that my friends don't like it when I cross the street by myself. I'm not doing a lot with it, they say, but I'm pretty happy with my life as it is these days.

Well, I really lived up to my intelligence here. "Fault" should be "thought". I don't know where that came from.

I believe I am smart when it comes to most things...except math...I've never been very good at math. I have common sense though and I have found that alot of times that can be more helpful than a bunch of algebra problems. What I don't like is when someone is smart and they know it and they make you feel stupid just because your not as "book smart" as they are. I have a cousin that used to act like that and I hated it. He's more humble now so that's good. :) Then there are people like my husband that is very smart in practicaly everything but he is also very humble about it. He succeeds in everything he does and wherever he work the people that he works with all like him alot.

You got that part right, about using the brain. The smart people are the ones who live life on their own terms. They have dreams and know how to make them come true. They live as free as the wind and think for themselves. They know that abundance is around every corner. They help others and never let anyone get them down. They appreciate all that comes into their lives. They may not have a high IQ, but you can't measure the happiness they feel in their hearts. They live an unlimited life, move forward with confidence and never think twice about what others think. Those are the smartest people on the planet.

I know I'm smart. according to the IQ test I took anyways lol. But I know I lack common sense sometimes. What annoys me is not so much when people act stupid, but when people act as if I am stupid. That really bugs me.

Yes i agree with some of the responders here...being smart is different from that of being intelligent..intelligent if you know how to solve the equations and knowing how to argue with people with correct grammars and tenses....being smart is different, though you are not a classroom intellect individual, if you know how to earn money, if you have this knock of putting food on the table, you know how to survive trials and difficulties in life, then you are smart.....

Sometimes if asked this particular question, I would ask the person next to me, "Do you think I'm smart?" It's rather uncomfortable for me to rate myself. There are two things: EQ and IQ. I would rather have a high EQ but unfortunately, it seems that my school records and other people's opinion gear towards the 'above average.' Modesty aside, I had been a consistent honor student from gradeschool till post-grad (went to med school then topped the certification exam for teachers). This should make me happy but not really. My brother told me I have a low EQ because I couldn't find solutions to life's simple problems. That bothers me so. It's good that I get to be here at myLot to chat with other people and hopefully to see life through other people's experiences and opinions. What is important is to make the most of what we've got-- since humans don't even use 50% of their brain so there is a need to use it more often! Haha.

Yes i think that i am smart, and ofcourse most people are at least average (or why it became AVERAGE), but as you said the way some body uses his brain reflect his smartness. some people does use there brains in usless or harmful things, i consider them lacking smart; smart in my definition is the way of directing your thoughts towards inhancing the humanity's living
