John Lennon does not know what he's saying. He sees the big crowds flocking at their concerts and the big sale of their songs and he believes Beatles is that popular. The Holy Bible has been the best seller of all time, even before John Lennon or any of the members of the Beatles was born. In fact our year A.D. started with the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Lord is referred to as the Man of History. Nobody would ever be more popular than the Lord Jesus Christ.

it was taken out of context. but let's say that's what he really meant. i would agree. question is how many people really know the true Jesus Christ? maybe somehow this is what john has in mind when he made that comment

I agree with you. They were too popular at that time, that maybe he thought more people follow them than Jesus.

Anybody is free to say whatever he wants. But the fact remains that nobody will ever be more popular than the Lord Jesus Christ - before, now, or even in the future. John Lennon and may be all the Beatles are drowned in their popularity and wealth and they do not know what they were saying.

I adore the Beatles and John Lennon in particular, but frankly speaking it was a bit foolish to say it. He should have thought it well before telling this. He should have realized that lots of people all over the world would protest it and that these words would have a great negative impact. Nevertheless, I don't like him less because of his words.

Some of Lennon's remarks did cause widespread discontent, and this remark did cause an outrage against The Beatles. But I think John Lennon was like that ..never afraid to speak out his mind.Inspite of the admiration I have for the superstar I personally feel that he should not have made this remark. He later had to apologise for making such a remark,..and it was after many Beatles record were burnt in the US

hehehe...they probably said that because they where the largest icon that happened in earth's history...and they probably said it just to enrage our country (philippines) cause they where on the tour back in 1966 and snubbed the first lady, which serves her right..hehehe...

John was a very philosophical man, and had no problems speaking his mind. However, as others have already said, what he said and the way he said it was blown completely out of context. I don't think The Beatles (although I love them) were or will ever be as popular as Jesus.

I think this will be dragged up forever this Jesus Christ thing with John Lennon. The thing is they were way more popular than JC, that's what really annoyed all the stiff's back then. Besides that it was taken out of context. You should listen to Lennons & The Beatles lyrics a little closer, they are often speaking of misunderstanding & ignorance.

I agree with him, not so much that they are more popular in the sense, but more accepted. Those who do not accept Christ, accept the Beatles.
