One of my guinea pigs who I thought was male (as the store said) turns out to be a female who was PREGNANT! Tonight she had 3 babies and one didn't make it. I think the other 2 boys thought it was "food" and they attacked him (at least by the looks of the baby). I need some help! I've never had a day old guinea pig before. So since there's 2 I need some help. I was never planning on having more, but this has changed the plans some. Now my husband wants to "breed" them and now I need to know more information before I try and do something like this. Does anyone know what to do in this circumstance? If so, please respond asap. I'll be checking this post hourly. Thank you in advance for the help you may give.

Pigglies gave the best advice. We fostered some very young piggies and were sad to see them leave but they went to a good home. I could sit here and say all the stuff that Pigglies said but that would be rather pointless. As far as breeding, if you have people that want them and are going to care for and about them then that's great but there are way too many unwanted piggies in shelters. I really wish you the best of luck!

Wow that must have been a surprise! A similar thing happened to me, except I knew she was a girl but just getting fat! And then the next day I find 2 little piggies running around :)

It was a HUGE surprise! But a great one! We have fallen in love with them, so much in fact that my hubby wants more of them! LOL!

Remember that if you want more, you can always rescue! I've had around 20 pigs before. If I wanted 100, I could easily find that many to save (although, I know I don't have time or space for that many! or money for potential vet bills). Do check out the situation near you about guinea pig overpopulation. Also, even if there isn't an overpopulation problem, consider how many you can realistically care for. Vet bills can come up (especially with pregnancies) and things can get quite expensive (I've had a few pigs who were referred to as "thousand dollar piggies" because they went above the grand mark).
