So we took a drive ended up in Coloma, CA and went gold panning it was a spurr of the moment trip, we had the greatest time and my kids still talk about that day and it was a year and a half ago. Have you ever just jumped in the car with no destination in mind? Tell me your most memorable trip?

WE do this all the time, I think you know my Mum and Dad both have Alzheimer's and they are still at home , we take them out as often as we can .we have gone out some days , went into a shop and bought some "picnic goods" and have had a great time , we all love this and it is really much nicer than if we have planned it , xx

The best trips are those with the least amount of planning as there is no time to stress out. You just get in the car and go. Picnics are wonderful, and so lazy feeling.
Planned trips while they are nice I get very stressed about everything being packed and the rush to get to where were going and the check in and on and on and on. :)

Oh yes, I love picnics. On day trips instead of eating out, we often stop and pick up sandwiches at a deli and have a little picnic in a rest area. Spur of the moment trips are very fun, and wonderful memories!

Oh yes spur of the moment trips seem to be just as fun as planned ones. Gold panning is a lot of fun, especially if you can bring home a little free treasure. I love day trips, haven't been on one in quit some time, however I absolutly love day trips to places such as San Fransico, Folsom Lake, the Zoo, and on a weird day that I may actually have some money to spend..the Mall hehe

San Francisco is an excellent day trip. I think that the next day trip should be to Lake Tahoe. We must go soon and have a picnic along the way at the river where you turn of to go to ice house. We can do a little fishing too. :)

Thank you for your response. Yes it is so true that we all are so busy in our everyday lives that we sometimes just don't have the time. We do try to find time to do these spontaneous trips as much as possible. Tend to be more of them in the spring and summer. Hope you get away soon. Good luck to you here at mylot!

On a motorcycle ride YEARS ago I picked up a gold pan and vials at Downieville, but still have not done any panning. Prior to this, the only panning I did was back in the mid-80s near Quincy on a camp trip; all I had was a Frisbee, which had to make do.
I often motorcycle through Coloma, but my preference would probably be somewhere more remote and isolated. I'd love to trip over a pound of nugget while heading out to pan.

That's so great that you could just be spontaneous and take off with your family. It always seems like the things that we don't plan for are more fun then the ones we do. I think the best spontaneous trip I've ever had was before we had our daughter we hopped on the motorcyle for a nice ride up north and ended up taking the ferry to Michigan and spent the weekend there.

The closest to this I can think of is one time when we started out from Austin, TX (where I lived at the time) with the intentions of going to Lost Maples State Park (maybe 200 miles away) for the weekend, but ended up in Ruidoso, NM instead.
We did have a destination in mind, but ended up in a different state, and 800 miles away instead of 200. But it was pretty fun.
