How do we encourage consumerism? Do you always think before purchasing something?

Yes, I am one of those people who does think before they purchase something. A few years ago, I might not have done it as much as I do today but in those days I was working, we had some money to spare but today we are retired and so do have to watch our money. What we can save on one item, might just allow us to buy something that we could not otherwise afford. Even some small businesses are very commercialised today, and that is partly so they can keep up with big business but at the same time, I prefer the personal touch. That is what is more likely to take me back to a store or to buy a particular product. Many manufacturers do not actually want the customers know what is in their product, because they they might be deterred from buying it. So that is why they put things down as a general brand, i.e. sugars, preservatives etc. The discerning shopper should be looking at these things, although many don't of course. They tend to buy what is right in front of them at eye level and at the end of the aisles, which is why manufacturers pay large premimums to have their goods displayed in certain places. :)

I am know to think twice.. three.. four times LOL Anyone counting on my impulse shopping will never go far Regarding consumerism I have to say that it upsets me somehow because it affects lots of people that sometimes can be more impulsive when shopping and end up with many things that they thought at the moment they couldn't live without - and learn later that it wasn't exactly so :) SPecially when nowadays so many things are targeted for younger audiences, making some kids believe that they will never be fine until they have that robosuperspecialthingamajig .

Normally, I do think about what I'm doing. I also made it a habit not to go grocery shopping on an empty stomache. Than I really don't think abouth what I am buying, only that I am very hungry.
