I've see many discussions about operating system and programs very expensive. So, I've a question: why you don't try freewares programs? For example there are many linux distro that you can download without costs. Or many programs like Gimp, great like Photoshop Cs, but freeware. I can speak about antivirus, users prefer Norton, but why? there are Avg!, Avast, and others antivirus very useful and without costs too.
So, why do you prefer proprietary software?

I have used a few freeware programs in the past, the last one being Avast anti virus.
I also use several versions of Linux that I have downloaded and change them ocassionally on my laptop.
I think that too many people still believe the old adage that you get what you pay for, so freeware is seen as a second rate option.
