The Harry Potter books and movies always gets excellent ratings and responses from the readers and audiences.
The question I have always have in mind is what makes the book so highly in demand everytime there is a new release?
Which movie of Harry Potter is good for the kids to watch?

First it was the books that caught everybody's attention. It moved people's imagination. About an average boy who turned out to be not so average. It's a mature children's book. After that came the movies, the movie was all hyped up, thus the excitement of it's release. Plus they chose a relatively unknown individual to play the part of the lead roles, making it all the more intriguing for people, specially fans of the book, to see if this 'new comer' can fulfill the role of harry, it helps that Daniel Radcliffe is a good looking lad with an air of, ahm, for lack of better terms, innocence about him, specially in the sorcerer's stone (book 1) where he was still relatively young. Plus when, Harry Potter books indeed got so popular, the series was yet unfinished, so when one got hooked, one look forward to the next one release where you can find out what happens next, coz one book although is a good story in itself, I mean you would'nt get lost even if you haven't read the first ones before that book, you know that when you reach the end, you know that there will definitely be the next year to look forward to.
Hmmm.. All the Harry Potter movies are good, so you can actually take your pick or better yet, watch it all. But if a choice has to be made, I think you should go with book 1 or the first in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I think it is the simpliest and easiest Harry Potter to understand but it also has the least effects. If you are looking for the most effects, the most ahm shall we say explosive Harry Potter, then you can watch book 4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Where Dragons, fight scenes, 'scary' scenes and more flying scenes abound. But it's really better if you watch all of it.

I think the reason they are in such high demand is because it's an on going series. When one book ends you that section ends but there is still so much that hasn't been resolved. When a new book comes out readers want to see just what all will happened, what will change, etc.
With the movies I'd start out with the first one. It's an excellent story and then as they get older they can watch the later ones as appropriate for them.
