This morning I saved a Cat's Life

I am so upset this morning. I have been clawed and scratched but in the end I saved a cat's life. It's head was stuck in a ziploc bag. I have never seen or heard of such a thing. I will probably never throw out another ziploc bag without cutting it. Have you ever seen or heard of anything like this?

I have never heard of anything like that either. I guess we should all think a little more before doing things. My son did leave a fishing pole up against our porch one day and a cat had decided to play and ended up with the hook in his mouth. I went outside and this cat was just having a fit. It took me almost a half an hour to get the cat to even let me near it. After some scratches and some squirming, I finally was able to release it. I told my son later that fishng poles were to catch fish and not cats. He makes sure he puts his poles away now. He couldn't believe it.

Wow...I never heard anything like that. I'm glad you were able to help the cat. I think a lot of people (including me) don't realize how dangerous some of the things we do are to animals. Great job on saving the cat!

Thanks, I gave you a + because you really didn't have to give me one! I just wanted people to see how our carelessness affects the animals around us.

Don't be upset feel happy that you were there at the time ...you should be feeling good that you helped the poor thing I have heard of animals getting the plastic grocery bags stuck on their heads just like little kids never leave things like that around... Five gallon buckets setting around fill up with water and animals try to get a drink fall in and then can't get out . We all just need to be more responsible...Thanks for bringing this to everyones attention ...it might save a few more lives of animals and children...

Yes,I have.I saved one that had his head stuck inside a metal pork 'n beans can.I heard this pitiful muted mewing and bumping.I looked out my door and there he was wandering around the yard.I grabbed my hand held can opener and out the door I went.I caught him and got a few scratches but managed to cut the bottom out of the can.Once that was done and he could breathe he calmed down and I wiggled the can off his head. After that he came around regular for me to pet and feed him.Makes you wonder how many die because no ones there to save them.

That's what I have been thinking about most of the day. I feel great I saved the cat, but wonder how many have animals have not been as fortunate. Kudos to you and your quick thinking.

Oh my goodness. Do you think the cat was just hungry and that's why it stuck it's head in the bag? I'd hate to think someone did that it to it deliberately.

I don't think it was intentionally. It's one of the many strays I see and we feed pretty regularly. The bag had the zipper lock. it It looked like it had squeezed it's head inside a small opening to get whatever was in there. I would hate to think somebody did that on purpose.

It's important to wash out any food remaining in bags, plastic containers, cans and jars as this happens with wild-life as well. Also, I cut the plastic rings that come on pop cans ( the plastic carriers ). Crushing containers and cans in addition to washing out food residue helps prevent such unfortunate accidents as well. Also, wrap broken glass up. There are stray cats and dogs that feed out of our landfills along with wildlife.

thanks for the comment, I have been cutting the soda carrier straps for years after seeing a story about birds being choked.

Poor kitty. I've never heard of this happening either. I know a friends kate once ran out of a window of a flat because it saw a bird and the window was open. Luckly the cat landed in the rubbish and was fine but still my friend was very shocked and scared. I'm hoping your kates alright and doesn't try to do this again. ~Joey P.s whats your kitty called?

I feel good that I have the kitty, but bad because I didn't realize how dangerous ziploc bags were. It wasn't from my trash, but I have thrown away planty without even thinking about it. Today was a wake up call for me.
