Do you think Spanish is a more useful language than French?

A lot of people do. I do not. There are certainly many more spanish speaking people in the US than French, but many big companies like IBM are also in France- knowing french could get you a great job. What do you think?

i think spanish is more useful in the us... especially near the mexican border but i would rather learn french. it's prettier. i like that not everyone speaks it too. i'm closer to canada so i figured that french would be the way to go. when the canadians invade... i'll be prepared.

Ah yeah I'm the same. Spanish, I admit, has more usefulness but doesn't sound near as good! I've tried to learn Spanish but couldn't roll my tongue and my friend started learning French so... I decided to too, and took French instead of Spanish in High School. It's so much better-sounding, and I can actually do the rough French "r" very well compared to the tongue-rolling, ha.

I always wanted to learn french but just didn't have the chance. I know it's a very difficult language to learn especially when it comes to pronounciation. For a traveller, spanish will be a great language to learn since it's widely spoken. I know very little of spanish and there are many spanish words (or corruption of it) in our mother language.

You can enroll in free online french course. I am enrolled in one, they have audio so you know how to pronounce it. Try the "Rocket French Course".

For me Spanish. Spanish is spoken in more countries around the world than English. And it's so close to other languages.

My first language is Spanish and I have learned a perfect french. Now I wish I learned a perfect english... I'll try to do that soon :). I think spanish is growing thanks to latin migration, but french is shrinkig in someway. EU official languages are french and german, so this another example that for official things french is more respected, but I think this is just politics and it will change eventually.

I spent four years living in France, so French was much more useful for me. Canada is a bi-lingual country, French/English and a large number of African and Arab countries speak French as well, eg Tunisia, Algeria and some Belgians and Swiss speak French so you are not limited to speaking French only in France. Spanish is useful as well but I much prefer speaking French.
