I believe in the power of intention. By focusing on that which we want we are more likely to obtain it. That being said, I do not believe in a Man-like God in the sky controlling our every move and interested in our every decision. So from the perspective of asking for some kind of cosmic intervention, I think prayer is seriously flawed.
But I do think that the power of focused thought and energy MAY be able to influence events in the here and now. In the grand scheme of things, it is all unknowable until we die. Interesting arguments can be made for either side.

i truly believe in prayers. God listens each and everyday and helps out alot in situations. my biggest prayer was answered the day God gave ne the energy and courage to leave the bad relationship i was in and he also sent me someone that loved and treated me and the kids the way we needed

Yes, I believe in prayers. My mom was told she had something on her neck. They told her it looked like a tumor, then started talking about cancer. I had everyone I knew to pray for my mom. Well, when she went back to the doctor, the knot wasn't there anymore.
I feel if you really believe and have faith and patience. Prayers do come true.
