I would definitely consider it art. It can be just as difficult to find just the right subject for a masterpiece in photography as with painting. A lot of time and effort go into making a photo that deserves to be framed.
The subjects of photos as art are also varied. Landscapes, people, still life, all these can make wonderful wall art.
I have seen a lot of work from other photographers that I would purchase for my walls. There is such beauty out there. There are some really great photographers.

definitely, i do think photography is art,
i know, because whenever someone takes my picture, it looks crap, but when i take my picture or anyone else's there's something about it, it's natural and beautiful.
i know, lame example.
i guess if i had that kind of money, i would some photograph that touches me deeply, there was a world press photo exhibition here last year, and all the pictures were so moving, it's true what they say,
' a picture is worth a thousand words'.

I'm just an armature photographer but I think of it as an art and it's creatively equal for me to drawing and paintings that I also do.. Not sure how much would I pay for someone else's work but it depends on how much I like it and how much i can afford..

Photography is in the field of art. It is subjective, it can be provocative and it can bring emotion to a person. Personally I like photo over video since photo can make imagine on the situation of the photo.
You can take a look on a photo of a person in a wheelchair and you make up a hundred stories about the person. What is more is that photography capture emotion, that is what make me like photography.
Well, about buying someone else's work, if I can afford it and if I think it is worth it, why not? For now maybe no, because I'm still a student and I've to earn before I pay but in the future if I doing well, I'll consider it.

I would buy photographs, if they have some lasting quality. In some cases, they may be simply perfect, taken in the best way conceivable, and in some other cases, they may have some historical/cultural significance. I have a special liking for black and white pictures which display the wonderful schemes of shade (where much more than just balck and white appear). I am very much interested in photography, but right now, I lack a good equipment. However, I use my small camera to shoot some nice pitures, within its restrictions. My laptop has a good webcam attached to it, and I have found out that it works great outdoors, especially for cloe-up shots. I love to take close-up shots of garden plants, especially their leaves. It is a bit difficult to carry, focus and capture close-ups using the laptop, but I take it as a challenge! I plan to buy a digital video camera that would also allow me to take still pictures. If you have any suggestions, please do let me know. And also help me to learn more about photography through online resources.

I do consider photography art. My fiance and I both are photographers - he is much better than I am. But we do buy other artists photographs. We have bought prints from Deviantart. We bought some Larry Carlson prints when we were in New York. Also I love Gregory Crewdson. I have his bok Twighlight... and I went to see the photos he had in the Aperature exhibit at the Fine Arts Museum last year. I would definately buy a print if I had the money.

I do photography but i'm not good at it.Yes, i consider it as art. there are lot of feelings a simple photograph can express. I mean just looking at an artistic shot we can see what the photographer want to express and i consider that as an art..seeing the unusual things and expressing it thru pictures. I would definitely buy a someone else's work if i really like it.

I wouldn't rather by a photograph, I would try to get a shot thats as god as that my self.
I hope I can become a good Photographer because I want to sell my Photos on the internet. I'm already trying but because it's more like amateur photography I don't think someone would even buy a photo for 1$.
If someone is interested in seeing my photos, write me and I give you the links to my Photos.

Pretty much everyone I've met has that same thought. "It's just a photo. I like it, i'll do it myself." Are there any ways to discourage that thought among the art-buying public? Photographers do need to make a living.

Well there is, if someone has the thought that it's wothier to buy a picture than to hunt a shot that would be as good as that picture for his whole life. But man, I got so few money that I can't buy pictures even if they are extremly beautiful ;_; that's sad. Thats why I'm trying to make money xD
