War made us Humans

I read an article about Human evolution, and it said that war made us truly humans. Our ability to wage war made us more concerned about the health and well being of the tribe. Chimps for example, dosen't care about sick individuals and they don't activly share food. We were once like this too, but we evolved and fought wars and started to become compassionate towards our fellow tribesmen inorder to survive..
What do you think about this?

This is pretty interesting, as it is also known that we are the only animal species to feel empathy at such a high level. Battling with others of the same species may have reinforced group cohesion and care of the 'fallen comrades'. A common goal may also have played a similar role in our evolution toward what we are now. In psychology, it is known that the shared dislike/hatred of a third party binds two human individuals together. As humans can only efficiently survive in an organised society, as small as it may be, it is likely that conflicts may have participated in our efficient survival on this planet.
Excellent first discussion!

I'm going to ardently disagree with this comment. Primarily we are only marginally removed from the animal kingdom. We do most of the things animals do. We procreate, we run on instinct, we have primal fear, we have the ability to kill in the name of our survival. We would stand and kill for our loved ones. If hungry we would even sacrifice the weakest to eat their body to survive.
And quite frankly observing human behavior one would argue that the real animals have more compassion.
Our ability to wage war is a survival mechanism. The fact we went to war has nothing to do with the reason we became concerned about health. It is our need to survive that made us think about ways to make our quality of living better. Humans have the instinct and intelligence to improve their lives. And unfortunately some believe going to war is a way of improving their lives. Ahhhh!
The only difference between humans and animals is our innate wish to be reunited with love. And because we have become so removed from what that actually means, humans probably think it's a whole lot of babble. Our highest most exquisite experience of love was with the big dude. I'm loathe to say the word in case you think I'm a Christian Fundamentalist. I am not. But any human with compassion could understand their most primal wanting, if only they took 5 minutes to ask the question of themselves.
War does not make us human, it makes us suffer. How's that for good health! And just what have we evolved into by the way?
I'm sorry, I've become vocal and passionate with your posting, please don't take it personally afterall you didn't write the article and you were asking for opinion.
