the soup-from-a-store problem

the soup-from-a-store problem - this cream-of-broccoli-and-cheese soup has 4 grams of fat per serving... and that is consdered one of the lower levels in non-reduced soups.

Hi, Catherine here. I am wondering if anybody else feels that the soups you can buy have extreme fat content. I notice very often that unless the can or package has "lite", "low in fat" or "fat-free". Why do they put so much fat in it, when there is absolutely no advantage??

Hi Catherine, I guess the quick answer to that would be that fat tastes good to most people nd it is a cheap ingredient. Personally I don't like soups from a can or package because they have too mnay other additives and usually a high salt content.

Usually the fat content is #1 what gives any "cream of" soups a creamier taste and texture. #2, face it fat tastes good, people go for taste. Not all fat is bad for us though, so just be picky and decide when it's worth it to you to go for the 'fatty' version! lol
