California to pass another law...this time about lightbulbs.

You can read the article a: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/energy_california_lightbulbs_dc So the article states that by 2012 California will pass a law saying that you can ONLY use compact flourescent lightbulbs. The article states that these lightbulbs actually use less energy and are cheaper. For me they aren't cheaper. By the power of the dollar store I am able to get enough regular lightbulbs to last me for so long I forget whether or not I actually need any. A regular light bulb lasts me an awfully long time so $1 compared to almost $3 is somewhat silly to me. My question though is this: Is it right for there to be laws about things like this? Is it fair for the government to take away silly things like lightbulbs? Why or why not?

I guess as long as they still work in the same old sockets, it's fine with me. I really can't remember the last time that I changed a light bulb, but I use at least one all of the time. If it will use less energy, I suppose I'm for it. $3 worth of bulbs would last me most of the year and unfortunately, the only way for people to start using energy-saving devices like this is to take away the wasteful options. California has some of the weirdest, yet most progressive, legislation ever proposed, but I can't find too much fault with this one.
