No , I do not think white lie is a sinful thing. The reason why it is called white lie is this lie you tell is on good purpose, mostly. you do not want to hurt somebody or some body's feeling. for example, when some one has a cancer, and the days for this guy is not long. Doctors will not tell the true to the guy directly.It is a lie. We can not say that doctors are doing something sinful. of course, we should tell :) white lies too many. otherwise we will cultivate the habit of tell lies.

If you believe that lying is a sin, then a white lie is included in that I think.
