What and How much do you recycle.

I recycle everything I possibly can, walking to the recycling centers several times a week to take the things that aren't collected from my home. I also do alot of crafts and try to recycle items to use in this. I make bags from soda tabs, old hard book covers and vinyl records. I recycle old clothes by turning them into something else. Very little gets wasted in our home.
I am curious as to how much other people recycle, and if you choose not to why not?

I am nowhere near as good at recycling as you are ... you should get your local paper to do a report on your efforts .. it would certainly spur me on to do more!
I am quite lucky as our council does paper, cardboard, tins, bottles and garden waste recycling .. so all I have to do is sort my waste into appropriate piles and put it out ready for them to collect .. and as I have disabilities they come right to my door to pick up the recycling so I don't have to struggle with any heavy loads ..
In the summer I do take my bottles to the bottle bank .. I load up my basket on my disability scooter and trundle off to the village bottle bank .. I can't do it in winter I get too much pain in the cold weather ...
I try and recycle all other stuff by giving it away, selling it, or piling it up to wait for a charity to need some bric a brac for a sale ..
I well remember when I was a child that both my mum and my granny would go round all the jumble sales (usually weekly in those days) .. and they'd buy good woollens and undo them, wash the wool and reknit into lovely jumpers and cardies, posh frocks would be cut down and remade into party frocks or even pyjamas .. imagine the luxury of having silk pyjamas as a kid .. mens trousers cut up for polishing cloths ... nothing was wasted ... sadly we really have become a throwaway society ...
But it's not too late .. I shall resolve to recycling a little more this year ...

Most of our waste go mainly in trash, but we do sell our bundles of old newspapers, plastic and glass bottles and other papers to kids who roam for them to sell in junk shops. We also collect our used plastic bags to make it as trash bags.

I'm not nearly as "good" at recycling as I should be. Our city has an ordinance that requires you to put anything recyclable into blue bags for them to take and I try to do it but I can usually see a few items here and there that go in just the regular trash. I wish I were more dilligent but sometimes I just get lazy with it and I know it.

If you have clutter and/or items around your house you dont want to be bothered with selling or taking to the dump - then Freecycle is for you at www.freecycle.org for a Freecycle group in your area. Freecycle is international. Recycle items to avoid overfilling the garbage dumps and make space in your home. One man's trash is another man;s treasure" truely applies here. I have given away so many things that I almost trashed that someone wanted and even came and carted it away. You can put in requests, too, and from there I received a free handicapped electric lift recliner worth over $400.00 someone didnt need anymore! The only requirement is that you cant give away forbidden items like explosives and such and everything must be FREE, you cant barter, exchange or sell. Try it yourself!

I do honestly try to recycle as much as I can. Most of the time it is just aluminun cans. I do try to turn something worn out and old into something I can use again. My chinchilla likes to chew on and hide in old cereal and pop tart boxes.
