Are table scraps good for dogs? Sometimes I give my dog table scraps and he will eat just about anything. Does your dog sit at beg at the table?

when i was younger i had a dog who begged at the table and i absoluetly hated sprouts so i gave them to him and he loved them. for years my mam thought i was a "good girl " for eating my sprouts when in fact i was feeding them to the dog! "good boy" lol

I honestly have to admit that yes I indeed do! Not on a regular basis though as I know which foods a dog can have & which are harmful to there health as well! I try not to make a habit of every time I am eating something or my other half & me are sitting down to have dinner.. To give her the food from my plate.. As I know if I was to do this she would begin to expect it all of the time.. Sometimes if I see that she is wanting something from mine or my other half's plate.. I will move her dog food closer to her.. To prompt her to eat that instead.. Sometimes she will do so, other times she will still try to beg.. I think it's okay to give your dog table scraps sometimes.. But at the same time it all depends upon what you may be eating.. Because there are some harmful foods out there that if you feed them to your dog.. You could end up poisoning your dog & end up losing them! I know that I would never want to be the reason as to why my dog ended up passing on.. Having to live with that guilt would eat away at me for the rest of my life.. I know that a relative close to me.. She tends to hand the dog table scraps all of the time.. It has gotten to the point where when she comes over to visit.. And we keep her for a few days or even a week that.. She will NOT eat her dog food but instead expects table scraps.. Because they feed that to her on a regular basis instead of trying to feed the dog her own dog food.. After having to witness this being done.. I have honestly tried cutting back on giving my own dog table scraps.. Because I honestly do not want this to happen to my own dog.. As I don't find this behavior to be at all healthy! . . Because let's say if I mistakenly give her something that she's not supposed to have.. Or something that is to big in size.. Either of these could do something that would be very harmful to her.. She could end up having a reaction to one of the types of food.. Or she could end up choking on a piece of whatever it was that I had given her.. I know that once.. My sister ended up feeding my dog a bunch of lunch meat without me knowing.. And then she ended up puking up all of the lunch meat absolutely everywhere.. When I had found out that she had done this without asking me before hand.. I was absolutely furious! So I now keep a close eye on what goes in my dog's mouth.. As I care about her health.. And want to see her live for a long period of time, instead of me losing her due to things such as this.. From my personal experience.. Even though my dog tends to beg whenever we are eating.. Or when she puts her head on my lap as we are eating.. That.. We do our best not to encourage this type of behavior by not feeding her what she is begging for.. Which is table scraps. I don't mind treating her sometimes.. But if I do end up doing so I try to look up what foods may be good or bad for the dog before just handing her whatever it is that we are eating.. For example.. If there is onions in the dish I had cooked for supper.. I will refuse to give it to her as I know how unhealthy onions are for a dog.. As well as there health! . . In conclusion.. I only feed my dog table scraps once in a blue moon only as a treat.. But I don't make it a habit of it as I want her to enjoy eating her dog food.. And for her to not get to the point where.. She is relying on the table scraps as a meal all of the time! Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

My dog eats leftovers every day.I have only ever brought about 6 cans of dog food in 9 years for an emergency. He only has leftovers (besides the obvious onions etc...) He has never been sick and the vet said that he was the healthiest dog he has ever seen. the vet said probably because he gets vegetables and meat every day. But no, he dosnt beg at the table , he has got lovely manners.

i gave my dog table food, but they're not scraps. what i eat is what he eats. i don't like hard-boiled eggs and so i gave it to him, to my dismay, he also does not eat hard-boiled eggs :( i love hotdogs, he also loved hotdogs. hehehe but i don't give my dog canned foods, like corned beef or beaf loaf, coz it has lots of preservatives. but he is usually eating dogfood though...

In the first place,it`s not healthy for your dog to be feed with humans food, because they could have problems with digestion or with parasites. My dog is beging at table but I give him only the food that my vet told me.

No. Table food is not good for your dog. Most people are aware that chocolate is bad for dogs, but so are raisins, peach pits and onions. Our dogs (sheltie and shepard mix)are to wait outside the dining room while we eat. It's hard to see their little faces, but we know it's better in the long run for their health. We also have small children. By not feeding the dogs table food, we are protecting our children from the dogs grabbing food out of their hands if they are walking around with it. We have taught our dogs that they are to sit and wait while we fill the food bowl, and they are not to begin eating until we say "release". This keeps our hands from getting nipped as well. Dogs are pack animals and they need an alpha leader. Allowing them to be partly human only confuses them. I hope this helped. Kim
