Do you rate myLot discussions?

I try to rate discussions but there are times I'm just not sure what to rate them. With only 2 choices "+" or "-". Many discussions I've read I just don't know, their not "bad" but not "good" either so I just don't rate them at all. I would like to know if others have the same problem.

I only rate them if I find them interesting. Don't want to give anyone a - because I am sure it somehow hurts ther star power or maybe earnings.

Yes, you do give really meaty discussion topics Faith. They certainly do deserve more than a single line. If someone can't think of a good answer they should move on ...for heavens sake, it's not as if there's nothing else to choose from to respond to.

Me too - don't like giving -s but have since this discussion started doing this, everyone gets a + if they responded on topic. I do however give -s easily to ones who are totally off topic or only respond with a few words "yea me too" gets a - from me. I think I word my discussions prompting more than that for a response.

I've never had a problem deciding whether its a + or -.Most of the time I go into discussions which deserve a +, so that's decided. I rate every single discussion I respond to. I read it first, then rate it and then proceed to responding to it.

i try and rate them with honesty, if i think it's silly or mad i will rate it - but not all the time and if i think it's great, i will rate it +. i try not to leave it blank tho!

I definately try to rate all the comments on the discussions that I've started. Usually I give a + unless the comment is really unrelevant to the post or it's just something like "I agree". I try to rate on all the discussion I read but it's just so time consuming! I like to think what goes around comes around ... so hopefully i'll be + someone and i'll be getting one back. Good luck!

LOL - I +ed ya :) Ok, I +sed everyone that has commented to this point on this discussion. I just wish there was an in the middle for some others I've read - life is not just black and white and I've always been a "grey area" type.

*laughs* that definately wasn't a hint or anything but thank you! A neutral button would be fanastic I think - I know that I'd use it. I feel bad sometimes for not leaving feedback for some people. Like you pointed out life isn't black and white ... but if it was ... how boring would it be!!

ROTFLOL - actually I would have given the rating anyway, I think all of these responses have been good, now those "no I don't"s and "I live on another planet"s would have gotten -s

Yes,I rate on the page where I end up after I've posted a response.. and I always go back to the discussion list page I'm using at the time, so I also rate on the 1st page of the discussion I posted a response to.. This sometimes gets me involved in the discussion again, responding to a response..

P.S. Unless it's a discussion I started, then I read and rate all. And I always rate the discussion itself, a plus (or I wouldn't be there to begin, yes?) I very seldom give a negative. I usually only do that when someone is rude.. otherwise, instead of a negative, I just don't rate that response.. If it's a debate and the opinion is the opposite of mine, unless the answer is rude or condescending, I almost always give it a plus too.

Exactly because of the same confusion, it is very difficult to decide or rate the discussion, so I never rate the discussions. Also I do not want to give anyone a negative rating as well. So better leave the ratings but select the best response, that is something possible.

That's interesting because I find it much easier to rate than to pick the best. My rating goes like this: anyone who responds on topic gets +, responses of one word that makes no since or ones that have nothing to do with the topic (and often I do try to be generous) get a -. Best responses though - I get so many great responses I tend to put it off and put it off.

Someone said that if a discussion is good enough for you to spend your time responding to, it is good enough to give a +. I agree with that perspective. That is not to say that in that same discussion someone might say something silly, or negative, so that within the + discussion, I might see someone to rate -. I might even see someone who is abusing myLot rules, and copying and pasting responses, and then I will use the third option,!, and cheerfully tell myLot what I have observed. The other nice thing about rating the discussion you respond to is that if you happen upon it three months later, and do not remember it, the fact that it will say "rated" will remind you that you did. So unless I really goof up, I will rate every discussion I reply to.

I've been doing better on rating responses but the best response still has me lost. I get so many great responses or will get several so very close I just can't decide.

I always give people a plus unless their discussion is absolutely awful. I do not want to hurt other people's chances at making money. They may be as poor as I am. By the way, I always like your discussions and give you a plus.

Thank you, a very much appreciate hearing that. I try my best to make my discussions interesting, thought provoking, and fun and at the same time making them easy for "everyone" to respond to: for example asking more than one question or giving examples from my own life. I understand that not everyone on mylot has English as their first language and also not everyone is a professional writer so take that into consideration.

I rate all my answers, but I only give out the "-" to those posts that have npthing to do with my discussion, especially the rude ones (the "I dont knows" and "why did you ask this", etc. just to get credit for answering). Even if I disagree with the answer, I still give "+" as long as its pertinent to the topic.

Very true - I am making a point of rating both discussions and responses to my discussions.

I have always rated every discussion as possitive. I feel like if someone takes the time to read what I have written, and give there opinion, It deserves a +. It may not even be what I agree with. But, everyone is different and everyone has an opinion. I am greatful for all the opinions I get. I have given only one negitive opinion and that was when some one was talking about killing someone and getting by with it. That one really turned my stomach and I refuse to even read this persons discussions or comments. this is just my opioion. LOL

I try to rate my discussions as well...the staff says that we shouldn't feel like we have to rate them all; like you said, it's sometimes difficult to figure out what you should rate them and when it comes to that, mylot says, just don't rate them. Hope that helped a bit.

I generally rate discussions to which I contribute positively. If i am responding to a discussion, this means that the discussion picked up my interest. I also, rate some spam discussions negatively. spam means a one-line discussion.

I rate the responses that I get for my discussions, and follow certain criteria for rating them. like, if I get one liners or abusive responses, or responses with adult contents, then I simply rate it "-". Also sometimes I comment on such responses, so that the mylotian makes a more detailed response.
But when I get some good responses, which are detailed and exceeds 4 lines, then I always mark them "+". On getting more than 10 responses per discussion, I rate one of them 'Best Response'.

Too bad there isn't a third choice. It could go something like this; 'positive, negative, and neutral'. Though as there are only the two choices, if it isn't "bad", I try to remember to give a positive anyway. Shoot, now I have to go back and see if I rated all of my discussions! LOL
