When you have already filed out your child birth certificate and you gave your child his father surname(parent are not married)Can you still change it without father concern? or put your name on child as well like a double bar name. The child is a year old and the plan is we would eventually get married, but doesnt seem that way now.As I am the mother and he has his father surname does that mean he has all the right if we ever split up?

hi there, when my baby was around 4 months old, i had put her fathers surname at the borth on the certificate but at 4 months later i went down to my local registery office and changed it back to my surname! the only problem is that if you change it to your surname you may not be able to change it again, there's only 2 chances you get, well that's the rule up here in england and it is free of charge to do so! :O)

what if the father realises that you change the name without his concern ,what do you think will happen?

I'm not sure about it.. but I think you have to go to a lawyer and get it changed. I'm sure you have to have fathers permission

i dont think they will let you do it with out him knowing. you would have to call a lawyer to do this i am sure. at least here you would.
