Sounds like alot of days for achild to miss especially since they are allotted 18 days of excused absenses. Well, guess what. This is due to our area being hit hard with winter storms. As we are recovering from a natural Disater we now have been hit with a snow storm that will last 3 days if predicted correctly. Snow days are maxed out by several days. I don't know how they will make up these days are surpassed. Should they give up spring break or should they extend the school year out? The sad thing on this time is that if we were equipped for snow they wouldn't have to miss. The ice storm that was understandable since people were having to seek warm shelter since it took 11 days to restore our power and clean up all the trees. I'm getting pretty bogged by the weather and my son is lost in his learning though I work with him out of some workbooks I bought hoping to keep him on task.

Hey! You only an hour away from me! :) My kids have missed school too. And I am wondering is school will be canceled tomorrow because just as this system is moving out, another is coming in the morning. But I like the snow. :) I was born and raised in Florida but I didn't get snow days...we had hurricane days. And back when I was a kid, we didn't have many of those. I think the kids will be ok with their learning with the time they have missed. The schools understand and have already said that any testing needing to be done before the end of the school year will be extended so they have a bit more time. My daughter cam home the other day and said that they are considering tacking on 5 minutes to each class period. But that would just mean 30 more minutes for my elementary kids...for a month! Personally, I would prefer them to take away Spring Break. But I am sure that the teachers are already looking forward to it and they could have many disgruntled teachers if they did that. Then the other option is to extend the school year. I already heard on the news that they will not allow Oklahoma to not make up the days because Oklahoma is one of the lowest states already for required days of school. But then my son came home today from high school and he said there was a rumor going around that if we have any more snow days, the state will consider it a state disaster and they will not have to make up the missed days. But you know rumors...they usually aren't true. So, I guess we will just have to wait and see what they decide what to do. As for you little one falling behind. I wouldn't worry. The teachers are preparing to make sure that does not happen. :) Hang in there, we have one more day of snow.

you know what. I hope there isn't much more of this. We typically have this weather till March! Did BA recieve much snow? I'm thinking if we haven't heard if school is cancelled then they will. I don't think tacking 5 more minutes onto class is the best thing to do but what do I know I'm just the parent. Maybe they should make snow day packets and pass them out when they hear bad weather is in the forecast. I had my son set down and do work from a workbook I purchased. Today he really didn't want to but when he got the hang of what we were doing he was enjoying it. I just want to keep him motivated because once they get back to school they are out of sync. I don't make him do much just one or two little pages. Last Monday they had a makeup professional day so they can discuss what they will do but they haven't said to us. I'm sure they will work it out wisely I hope.
