Manipulate is too strong, it means media can do everything with you mind, and this happens only if subliminal messeges are used, I would rather say media has a major influence on public opinion, all sort of media can build public opinion.

If I analize this problem reporting to our country I think this is true. A lot of people believe what they see at T.V. or in the newspapper. This is what I think and this is what I see at my relatives and my friends too. The only thing for media from which earn some money is to make rumour even if they have to invent something, they don't care if it's about making some money from it.

Not often but sometimes they do it for getting much circulation about that media. In our country media has to maintain certain rules that is if they manipulate any public or private opion with false things, they will have to face prosecution or traial in court. So where there is no such hard rules there medial will try to manupulate just to get wide circulation.

I agree that this is true, with some media being more biased than others. Some news stations try harder than others to be "fair and balanced", but you can still see the biases coming through in subtle ways. It's amazing to watch the coverage on a big event, such as the discussions following the President's State of the Union Address last month, and see the different spins that CNN and FOX News present. It's then up to us to analyze what we hear, compare it to other sources, and form our own opinions, knowing that what we hear on the news is not always the total, unbiased truth.

I agree with this. The media has the power to manipulate it's wiewers and it uses it .There is a good side and a bad side to this .The good thing about media is that it informs us about what is happening in the world and the bad thing is that 40% of what they say are usualy lies

The media definitely sways public opinion, but America is too diverse to be swayed by one or two single sources of news (fortunately). I learned several years ago that there is no such thing as unbiased reporting. There are so many hundreds of angles to any given story that just by the necessity of trimming a story down to 1000 words or less forces the reporter to bias the story in some way. I agree that it is up to us all to read multiple news sources, and remind ourselves to be as objective as possible before we make judgements. I personally wish the american media would be a little more pro-american sometimes, (as they were during world war II.) As long as there is freedom for anyone to write their views and report the news, then the bias of any news source does not worry me much in the way of swaying public opinion. I just hope that as Americans, we should remember that freedom must always come before "fairness" in our principles.
