As many should know the 7th Harry Potter book's date has been announced. The significance of the July 21st is unknown to many though. Ten years ago on July 21st the first Harry Potter book was released. I was ten at the time and refused to read the book because I thought that it was a spin off of something else. Now I love it and I don't know why I didn't read it to begin with. How old were you when it came out and when did you actually start the series?

Like you, I was 10, going on 11 when the book was released. I didn't want to read it because I thought that it was really a strange concept at the time. I think it was one of those really silly books that offered nothing in the ways of imagination, that it was just another one of those books..now I know better.

Boy ten years goes by fast doesn't it? I was 28 at the time but I didn't start reading it till just before the third book came out. My sister-in-law was reading the series and she recommended them to me. Once I started I couldn't put them down, I've been a fan every since.

My daughter, almost 18 now, was a huge HP fan. She seems to be less thrilled with it now, but enjoys it some. I do think she's read the most recent though, so I'm sure she will get the newest when it comes out. I don't know why I never read them, perhaps because my first encounter with them and actually "knowing" them was a movie and that tends to ruin my desire to read it. I prefer to read them and not have someone elses visions in my head. I know, weird... but it's me! lol

To prove that HP is enjoyable to everyone, I started reading them in my 30's. I think they're great, and there's definitely themes in them that are very adult. HARRY POTTER IS NOT JUST FOR KIDS!! Adults like them too!! LOL

I was 17 ten years ago and I didn't start reading it until I was 24 I think. I really read it because of the movies at first and then I became the biggest fan of the books.

I was 18 or so when they first came out, but I didn't read the Sorcerer's Stone until it was in paperback. Now I can't do without them, and I'm getting my copy of the last book at midnight on the 20th.

I ordered the last one from Amazon and it had a great discount, so with the shipping it was about the same as if I bought it in-store. But this one I just can't wait even another 16 hours for! I'll be reading through the night.

Hey that great to hear that they are realising this year and that too on 21 July. I was 15 when the first was launched. I didnt know about the at that time. I watched the first part of the movie when I was 19 and I read the novel when I was 22. Thats a long gap, but then I liked so much that within a short span of time I finished the first three books. I read the fourth and the fifth part when I was 24 and right now reading the sixth part and glad that seventh part is coming in July so I will be in the continuation. Thanks for the information.

A friend at work loaned me the book because she loved it. I was mid-20's. I fell in love with the book instantly and kept badgering her for the next one. I love all the books and will be so sad to see it end. I can't wait for the next movie. I think I look forward as eagerly to the movies as I do to the books.

I Love Harry potter but, I did not get into it until a couple of years ago . I bought all of my brothers books for my son! He had to read 15 minutes a day for school and I wanted him to have something to read that he liked. So I bought them and we have both read them! Now I am hooked! Thabnks for the great info on when it came out I did not know that!

I'm gonna say it... I was a Harry Potter fan before it was cool! Lol. No really! I was 13 years old (had just turned 13) and my moms friend from Australia bought me the book for Christmas... now for years she always brought me these funky fairy tales and weird stories from Australia. So I believe it to be another book from down under... I read the book and became SO enthralled and then after I was done reading I became very upset thinking since it was only from Australia I'd never get to find out what happened to Harry. A few months later I saw the book at my school's library... next thing I knew Harry Potter is EVERYWHERE!!! And now I'm 22 and will be finishing up the series... I can't wait :)

I tell you frankly that I have not read a single Harry Potter book. It is not that I dislike them or have developed aversion to them. It is not that. Actuall I did not have a chance. Any way, that is not an issue. I have heard a lot about Harry Potter books. They are fairy-like tales told simply in an attractive way. One thing that has astonished most is that children are stumbling on them. That is simply amazing. If today's children stumble upon a book or books genearally, I just feel more than happy. They habit of reading books is becoming a thing of the past under the aggressive invasion of electronic media. Books only can teach you and teach you learn how to be sensitive, imaginative and participative human being. No other media can do this. Electronic media can be more exciting audio-visually but it cnnot work like books and it cannot replce books altogether. Let us hope that the days of books return to the peope's lives in its full glory.

I have started reading Harry Potter books two years ago. Today i have become an addict of the books.. i really can't digest the fact that we are going to have no more books after the seventh one..
