My friend's husband is retiring tomorrow and is throwing a retirement party. I have never been to one of these before and so I am drawing a blank as to what kind of gift to get him. Can anyone give me some ideas? I need to head on out today go find something for him for tomorrow. Thanks in advance for the input. The one that gives me the perfect idea will get the BEST ANSWER award, so put on your thinking caps and tell me what you think...Thanks!

Well, it depends on what kinda person is he. You need to tell us what he's like and all that. When my dad retired from work, we gave him a set of power tools. It's to keep himself busy. My dad has always been a workaholic and he also likes repairing/refurnishing things around the house so we thought that was a great idea!

I really dont know him that well...Im good friends with his wife but he is very reserved and quiet. He worked for the Navy for a long time and is finally retiring. Thanks for the advice on the power tools, I'm not sure if he likes to work around the house...

What ever you do, don't give them a gold watch and a handshake.
You can always give a card saying your gift will come later so you don't duplicate a gift. They will think you're brilliant.

When in doubt I just get a card and put some money in it or get a gift card to a store or restaurant that I know they like :)
