Why does my LCD monitor flicker sometimes?

Not literally flicker, but create weak flashes of color in some areas of the screen, depends on what I'm viewing. For instance, this happens a lot when I watch videos or when I play games...The monitor is new, drivers installed...I hope it's not broken!!!
