We had a female, Yellow Lab that a Lab breeder told us was spooked. I had never heard of using that word to describe a dog, but she did seem like she had a screw loose. About a week ago, she completely tore her ACL by miscalculating her jump over the stairs from the deck to the ground. On advice from the Vet (he feared that after the surgery her temperament may be worse), we put her down. Does anyone know anything about having a Spooky dog and if there are tell-tale signs when picking out a puppy?

well most puppy's usually come from puppy farms.. alot of dog breaders don't spend time with the dogs and usually have other dogs around which makes the puppy seem scared cause of what the other dogs might be doing.. you want to get a puppy from someone who just had puppys and doesn't have like 50 dogs in or around the puppys and that has been nicely handled.

While that makes sense, it's hard to tell whether or not the dog was spooked when she was a puppy. I'm not interested in purchasing a puppy from a puppy mill. I was trying to find out whether or not there's a way to tell by observing a puppy if it's spooked or not.
