Your encounters with spyware?

So the other day i was going through my emails, and I was checking most of them because i get surveys sent as well, and after I clicked on one of them my computer just froze. So im like what the heck and restarted it, then some new thing called spywaresherriff loads onto my computer even though i had ad-aware,spybot protecting. It ended up killing my files so i had to do a backup and reformat. Spyware's something we all hate...care to share your encounters and what you did to solve it?
