Remember, this is a global site, so everyone from all walks of life participate in it. I like the fact that everyone can join even if you don't have a good grasp of the english language. Having an english test is a bad idea, because it might raise objections about discrimination. I know you mean well, but some people might think of it in a bad way. Imagine if this were, for example, a chinese site. Would you be slighted if you were required to take a chinese test first before joining a supposedly global site? I hope this enlightens this diascussion up a bit. Thank you veery much.

There are people that cannot speak proper english here, yes. But I do understand most of the things they are trying to say. So it doesn't bother me at all. The only thing that bothers me are.. kthxbai. You know. Like.. : "Hi mi luvz 2 eet p00p kthxbai". That bothers me. Yeah.

Once you post a discussions you not only post it for yourself you post it for everyone here at mylot why do you think that a person should not make the effort to make his discussion or response as fluent as possible, when everybody is making an effort and taking time out to make their discussions readable for everyone.

i didn't understand musch what you're trying to say about the english test. did you mean that you want mylot to screen everybody's english before registering? i myself is not that fluent in english, but i think it wont be a reason to stop me from joining mylot. you know, the truth is, i really salute the people that was very trying hard to speak/write in english just to post or respond to the discussions. they're also enjoy the community of mylot, the friendship, the learnings and lastly the monetary benefit. and this mylot really helps in improving everybody's english. this is a good training.

I don't want any test to be on mylot. I started this discussion because i was frustrated by other peoples complaints about the poor english being used. I enjoy seeing people learning and making friends from all over the world. I know some are trying their best and learning fast. I'm truly sorry if i offended you. That is not the person i am. Take care Wraithstriderwife.

I think this site is great to help many people practice english. Sometimes I have a hard time trying to understand the point people are trying to get across, but most times with a little effort I can get it. I don't think there should be any type of test, it's a great site and I love it the way it is.

I think that myLot is a test itself for non-English speakers trying tp learn the language. I believe that many of the people who post responses here are trying their best to express themselves (although there are others who also intentionally mess up the discussion). MyLot is open to everybody so I guess we can't do anything about erroneous (in any way, e.g. grammatical and spelling errors) responses. I would rather suggest that if discussions are done more intellectually, then those who were doing some intentional 'damage' would just give up because sooner or later, they wouldn't be able to keep up. Well, just my opinion.

i recognise your frustration and can understand it to some extent . I just think any type of limit put on membership would weaken the community as a whole. Instead, maybe we should all be a little more tollerent of others and recognise that typing in English as a forign language is hard and generally we all do well

I understand that many native speakers are going through difficulties in decoding some postings written not in the way they would write it. It's like deciphering the Rosetta stone.lol or maybe like a radioman intercepting and decoding messages from the enemy camp. English is not my first language and I always appreciate people who find time to understand and help out for us to have a good command of their language. cheers.

hmm, i think it would be better, if you´re helping the people to write in english language. i´m from germany and my english grammar would be better day after day. Please give us english dummies a chance. i just don´t like the chatting english like "u r ma best" or anything else. that makes it really hard to understand those people. but i will doing my best to get best english grammar.

If mylot didn't want people from non-english speaking countries to participate here then they wouldn't be allowed to sign up. To be honest I'm surprised that there aren't more posts in languages besides English!! It's not like English is the most widely spoken language in the world so I'm not sure why we assume that everyone should be able to speak it.
I find it hard to read "broken english" posts here but considering how many mylot users are from countries like India you are bound to get a few of them.
The posts that annoy me are the ones that you text messaging talk and you can't understand what the point of the conversation even is! At least you can get the jist of someone trying their hardest to use English.

Why should there be an english test on mylot. Mylot is open to anyone in the world. why should people be descriminated against. if you can't understand their posts then just don't reply. Only reply to those you understand. everyone should have the right to come on here to chat.

Absolutely. Its an english only forum, so why should any other language or an inability to speak english be allowed? It only detracts from the conversations and is a waste of space. I think it would make MyLot a lot cleaner and a lot more fun to read through if you didn't have to wade through the uninteligible garbage.

No there absouloutly should not. Just because someone dosn't have great grammer skills or typing skills dons't mean he or she dosn't have something interesting to say - or dosn't have the answer to someone's question or problem.

Not many discussions that i know or that i have encountered are not in proper english except for this girl that had a discussions that's english was broken down even simpler than that of chatroom english i think no one could understand it but her. Even though no one could understand it they still tried to make sense out of nonsense and answered it just to get a point.

It says "everyone's welcome" so no.
The test wouldn't be fair, i'm saying this because i'd fail and i'd be trying to pass! lol
still i doubt there should be one. since these very cool people who run this site say whats in my quote above, which should be admired. (not aimed toward pinning people)
