What is your take on this? I myself have tried to apply for medically needy medical care and was told if I was an immigrant or pregnant I could get it,but that my Dr cant deem me disabled only they could, thru SSA! Frustrating at best!
I am a native american and just dont make sense of this! Would love to hear opinions on this topic~!

I am Canadian and we have the same problem,I hole heartedly agree with mistymornster, but go the extra step and say that NO immigrant should get social assistance, they are being allowed into our countries as workers that are in good health to work in areas that we do not have the people for,not to look after their sick.(I do not distingquish between illegal or otherwise)
I am also part native but have never taken native status.
good topic, lets see what the immigrants have to say.

I don't think it's fair that the United States doesn't put enough money into caring for their own people in a case like yours. It's frustrating to know that so much money is going into people who can reap benefits from their own country and ours as well. We should take better care of our own citizens before trying to help other people who are coming into our country.

No, I do not think illegals should be able to get assistance. There are citizens who can't get any help so why should someone who never contributed in any way be able to get help? I know of a case where a person was in an auto accident and had a serious brain injury and can't work because it has left him permanently impaired and he will never get any better and he has been fighting with the system for 6 years to get SSI or some form of disability and can't get it. It just makes my blood boil to think of other people in his circumstance who can't get help but let an illegal ask and they get it. To top it all off the illegal don't spend it here they send it back home. Ggggrrrr

I don't think illegal immigrants should get assistance. For one, they are illegal. They are not U.S citizens and it's unfair to those whom are, that can't get assistance now. They make it tougher for us to get help. Yet, they don't have to pay taxes, they get better jobs than we do with better pay. It's not fair. They need to go back to their own country or become citizens..just like the rest of us.

No i dont think should get anything for free seeing how they are ILLEGALS its just not right and its taking all the money that could be going toward they legal citizens that really need help. Maybe we wouldn't need help if they weren't here taking all our jobs.

Illegal immigrants pay taxes too, in everything that they buy. And most of the jobs that they get are jobs that are underpaid and no one else want to take anyways.

No, I'm in your boat. I have had to prove who I am and that I belong here just to try to get medical help, however the DHS takes a "look the other way" approach to helping illegal aliens. It's not fair, at all. Illegals should not get government assistance

I don't know how people are chosen to get assistance, as I have none. But everyone needs it at least once in their life. And it wouldn't be fair to exclude illigal immigrants just because they don't have any papers. I'm not really sure of whom you are refering, but if you are refering to latins (as that's all I know), they don't ask for help unless it's absolutely necessary. Very proud people, just looking for something that they couldn't get in their own coutry, if they could, they wouldn't have come here in the first place. Not everyone is that lucky. And we shouldn't forget that America was founded by immigrants, the only people from here are Native Americans and half of the US used to belong to Mexico in the past. All races are favored in some way, I heard once that most of the people in welfare where African Americans. And everyone pays taxes just by buying food or anything else, so in a way they are contributing too. The one at fault here would be whoever decided who gets assistance and who doesn't, as they are the one's in charge. I hope I don't offend anyone with my opinion.

It isn't fair at all to all the citizens here in America..If you want assistance then become legal. A lot of states are taking into their hands on not giving out assistance to anyone who is illegal now, as it is closing so many hospitals accross the country as no funds. Our cost of medical insurance is rising to cover the ones who get it for free. It isn't fair at all. They need to make it a law you must show papers you are legal to get help...Free is costing to much in this country....

We had to deal with a lot of that in San Diego; especially the pregnant women that crossed the border when they were due. The government wouldn't send them back until after they had the child so they got free medical care and dual citizenship. There were even signs to let people know to watch out for people crossing the road. I'll add one of the images to this post in case you've never seen one. I don't have a problem with illegal immigrants because they do a lot of the jobs that most people refuse to do but when it comes to benefits and free housing, that's where I draw the line.

itsd hard to answer this without feeling a bit mean . in ireland we have a massive amount of polish and lithuanian immigrants in the past couple of years. people do resent them because they are taking all the local jobs . they are very good workers(most of them )and ther know their rights. they are not as used to be thought , working for slave wages. they get good wages but they send the money back to their country, they dont put it back into ours. they dont drink in our pubs, they dont eat out , they buy ther groceries in the polish shops which have popped up all over. our local newspaper has a page written by a polish woman and in our schools their children have a polish helper in class. it is true that they get better treatment than us but personally i dont have a problem with them.

This subject makes me so angry.
I live in the UK which as you all probably know seems to be inviting in people from all countries on the back of lorries. I am sick of it.
Over here we have a goverment funded health service which they are entitled to, even although they don't pay taxes towards the goverment. They can apply for housing free from the goverment, even although they don't pay taxes and they can claim benefits even although they don't pay taxes.
Now I know people are going to presume here that I am a racist, I am not. I just know for a fact that if I was going to go to their countries I wouldn't get naything for free and I totally respect that. Afterall what have I ever done for them.
But why oh why is my stupid goverment handed out freebies to all these foreigners.
Something that outraged me the other day was seeing a woman (from another country) selling The Big Issue. For those of use hwo do not know of it, it is a magazine started in Scotland so it could be sold by homeless people in order to earn a living. As you probably know, being homeless you can't get a job becasue you do not have a permanent address. Well this magazine is so that homeless poeple can earn money without begging or stealing. it gives them money to sleep in a cheap hostel for the evening and has been a very sucessful scheme. - Well back to my story, this foreigner was selling the magazine. Why is this woman here in our country if she can no tsupport herself. I wouldn't head over to another country if I couldn't help myself.
Now I know a few of your are probably thinking that what these people have back in their home country is bad but at the end of the day they are making a drain on my country's economy which means inevitably I will suffer in the end. If these countries need money then I am more than willing to donate to charities that will help.
