Is This A Lost Art or Does Someone Remember - Pew Dolls - Please Help if You Can

Many years ago dolls were made out of folding a man's handkerchief. They involved no sewing at all, just folding. They were called "pew dolls" because traditionally mother's would fold them for their children in church to keep the babes quiet during the sermon.
I have done several internet searches and have not been able to come up with instructions for these dolls. I have one; but am afraid to unfold her, as I fear that I won't be able to do her back up again.
If anyone remembers the instructions for this lost art, please share them with me. Thank you ~Donna

The Pew Baby doll originated during the days when family worship at the community church was just that - family worship. The family would all sit together in the worship service (many times on the pew designated for that family), and little girls were allowed to carry dolls with them that would not disrupt the service. These were usually homemade dolls that were constructed of all soft materials so they would not make noise on the wooden pew. They became known as pew babies.

I think i have no lost art but you lost art is pretty interesting and i would like to know much things about it and when you find please let me know and making dolls in hankey is something different this is the first time i am hearing to this as far as i am concerned and it is a good thing to make the children quiet in churches or in some places.

Here is a site with instructions on how to fold the hankie into a doll. I have always loved the pew doll, but have never made one myself. Here is the link, just scroll down the page and you will see the instructions for a baby pew and a fancy baby pew. Enjoy!

Wow thats cool , I remember my grandmother used to make these but, I never had one! I am going to make them for my kids and someday my grandkids! Thanks great Idea!
