Well, a little while ago I decided that I was going to attempt to silk screen. While researching it, I stumbled over this tutorial; http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/3674467.html All credit for this tutorial goes to CraftGrrl, I merely stumbled over it in google. It looks great, and really cheap, too. Instead of going this route, I ended up picking up a speedball silk screening kit, but, this is certainly an option if you're wanting to make your own shirts. So, I figured I'd post it.
