Fear of the unknown: Life after death

Meany people avoid the topic death, but its unavoidable everybody must reach this state. What really makes you shun the idea, is it the fear of the end or the fear of the starting anew? Are we destined to die in order to live or its just a "dead end" thing? Is there anything as eternity?
