As Metallica continues to blaze new trails in the world of hard rock/metal, have they "sold out" or become soft? We've all watched the band as a whole grow and evolve, and thanks to "Some Kind of Monster," we've seen James and the boys grow and evolve as people. Do you think that James' fight for sobriety will ultimately lead to more creative and relevant material for the band, or will it spell the end of Metallica as we have known and loved them?

I think they are changing for the better, they are growing old and they want to try more meaningful music. I am hoping that they would evolve into a supergroup like U2, they are still active and can compete with other younger bands.
I still believe they are one of the best, they've lasted this long even with the departure of Jason Newstead. I think Robert Trujillo is a good replacement also!;)

I don't think they have become softer, they just have a new approach on their music, less complex and more basic. As for selling-out, well, they've been doing that ever since the mid 80's, so no need to even point that. I have some faith into this upcoming album, so let's see if they don't let us down once more...

I think that they will continue to be successful, the fact that they continue to grow and change a bit over time is what has attributed to their success. James has a long road ahead of him to maintain his sobriety, and I can only hope that Lars becomes more supportive of the changes James has made in his life over the past few years.

I wouldnt say they have become a sold out as a big fan of theirs i think they have provided the some of the best songs ever. But i would like to admit that they have become soft over the ages. They have not reached the level which they were when the black album came out. They have not been ale to recreate the same sucess.Moverever with the band members changing they have lost their identity they are not the mettalica of the 90's no more.
