I was wondering how people's experiences have been with their friends and family since they've been diagnosed.
Has anyone lost anyone because of it? I've definitely done stupid things during my manic episodes. My worst would have to be where I disappeared for 3 days, pretty much drove around in my car and no one knew where I was. People were looking for me and going to contact the cops. Man I'm a trouble maker hehe. I thought for sure my mom and brother were going to kill me when I came home. I finally answered my phone and told my mom to tell my brother to promise not to start arguing with me. The whole rest of that night was extremely weird. I ate my dinner alone upstairs, didn't leave my room much and went to sleep really early. That has to be one of my lowest points. I'm not sure how my mom and brother were able to handle that or want to have anything to do with me afterwards. After a week or two things got back to normal, or what I guess I would consider normal hehe.
So far I haven't lost any friends, but I worry I might have hurt some of them along the way. I really don't leave the house much anymore. I've kind of stopped hanging out with people. People call me and call me and I dont answer the phone. I'm surprised none of my friends have left me. I think they realize now when I want to call back I will. Overall I'd say they handle it well, or most of them do. Some I really worry that they don't.
The odd thing is depression/bipolar have been one of the hardest things I've had to deal with and the worst. But oddly enough I've made a lot of friends along the way, especially online, and with local people who also deal with it. I guess its good I have different people to talk to about it.
