I have a puggle. For those of you who haven't heard of this breed, it is a pug/beagle mix. Very cute, and very sweet. But they have tons of energy. He yaps and barks all the time. And runs around like a small lunatic on "uppers." Any suggestions on how to calm him down a bit? It didn't used to phase me, but now that I have the baby, it drives me crazy. Because if he isn't just being obnoxious in general, he is waking the baby up, who isn't a big "napper" to begin with. I keep threatening to send him to live with my sister, who he doesn't care for, but he just kisses my leg or hand or whatever he can reach, and starts all over again.

He sounds like he might just want some more attention - if there's a new baby, he may be feeling kind of left out. Take him for some good long walks to try to wear him out! Maybe you could get a laser pointer - my dog loves to chase that around in circles, and you can play with it while sitting down!
Puggles are cute dogs, but I think they always have a lot of energy! If he's still young, maybe he'll grow out of it someday!

I hadn't thought of the laser pointer. I play with the cat with it all the time. Nope, don't think he is going to grow out of it unfortunately. He is 3 and fixed. I am thinking this is just how he is going to be. He really is a sweetheart though. He has always been hyper. I actually came home one day and found him on top of the entertainment center. Yep, you read it right. On top of a 5 foot tall entertainment center. He had chased the cat and she ran up the stairs, and jumped through the spindles onto the top, and he just followed her and wasn't sure how to get down. That is one point in my life where I can honestly say I just stood there and wasn't sure if I was gonna laugh or cry.

That's too funny - I love the image of the dog on top of the entertainment center!

this dog needs something to do.. find a small harnis thing that you can place bottles of water in it and walk him. beagles are hunting dogs which means they have lots of energy which means he needs something to do to tucker him out. play ball with him do something.. if your not willing to once a day do something with the dog to tucker him out then you shouldn't have the dog because you don't have time for the dog.

First of all I never said I wasn't willing to do something with dog. We take him out all of the time, and run with him for most of it. We play ball both in the house and out, and spend lots of time with him, not to mention the fact that there are 2 other dogs and a cat he spends a lot of time playing with and tormenting. One of these dogs is a St Bernard that is just over a year old, and the two of them spend the greater part of their day chasing one another around. It isn't an issue of neglect or ignoring the dog. It was the same before the baby, the major difference is now he isn't allowed upstairs because that is a completely "baby friendly" zone, and I want to keep it that way. He has always been this hyper, from day one. Not to go off on a rant or anything, I just wish to make it known that I don't make a habit of having pets that I don't take care of, or meet the needs of.
