When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

...And did you get your wish? When I was younger, I wanted to be a teacher, then a nurse. My parents said, why not a doctor? You'll be the first doctor in the family, and a female at that! So, since about the age of 5, I wanted to be a doctor :D Now, I AM A DOCTOR! And I'm very happy to have gotten my lifelong dream of being a doctor (an ophthalmologist)...I love what I'm doing and really cannot imagine NOT being a doctor. What about you?

Teaching is a very noble profession. I assume that's what you're pursuing right now? Good luck in following your dreams!

Not a bad career choice, and not too far off from your childhood dream :)

would you believe that i wanted to be a nun?! now i couldn't imagine myself being one. whenever this is brought up in our conversations, everyone, including myself, always kid around and say that no convent will accept me now. hahaha! then in college, i took up a course in business administration and planned on pursuing a law degree after. after 4 years in college and a couple of basic subjects in law, i figured it's not for me. guess what i'm doing now... i am in IT, working as a project manager for an IT consulting firm. go figure! :P

Just goes to show that SOME childhood ambitions are quite fanciful :). My brothers wanted to be a cook! Of all things! Not a chef, mind you, but a cook in a small restaurant. But, on second thought, that's not really a bad choice....hmmmmm. Now he's a businessman. :) Another fanciful childhood dream unfulfilled.

When I was young, I've always wanted to be a Doctor! But because of financial difficulties that the family had when I was about to go to college, I was not able to pursue my dream to become a doctor. I just chose to enroll into a 4-year course

If you're happy with your choice now, that's what really matters in the end.

As long as you're happy and don't have any regrets, that's perfectly fine!

as long as i can remember, i had always wanted to be a DOCTOR, just like everyone else. i particularly want to be a pediatrician because i was always tasked to take care of my younger brothers and sister as well as my cousins. in college, i took up bs biology as my pre-med course. but with the pressure my parents were putting on me i decided not to pursue medicine. i felt that i wanted something that is not that complicated and time-consuming... and i am glad that i chose a different path. now that i am an entrepreneur, i am very happy and satisfied because i get to manage my own time. i don't have any boss and i can see very well where all my efforts are going.

Well, childhood ambitions do change over time, and sometimes we really don't get to do what we wanted when we were kids. That's really the way life is, sometimes. But we have to be happy with whatever life has in store for us.

I know a lot of people who didn't pursue what they dreamt of as kids but still ended up happy with the choices they made with their lives. That ain't so bad :D

when i was younger (gradeschool), i wanted to be a teacher. it's so nice to impart knowledge to young people and help in their development. but my father told me that i could become a lawyer because i always reason out with him and give justifications to every little thing (wrong) that i did. now, i am a lawyer. but i still want to be a teacher.

Wow! I believe you could still teach even if you're a lawyer. Me too, I would like to teach someday, maybe, in medical school :)

My parents are both doctors - my Mom's a pediatrician and my Dad's a pathologist. And so everyone, including myself, always assumed I'd grow up to become a doctor. But I remember during my early teen days that I was interested in newscasting/journalism. I also competed in a lot of writing contests in elementary and high school. But I didn't think of pursuing that interest in college because I always believed my parents wanted me to be a doctor. And so I took up B.S. Psychology in preparation for Medicine Proper. But when it was time to take the NMAT, I didn't. I knew deep in my heart that I wasn't cut out to be a doctor. Being a daughter of 2 doctors, my experience growing up in the care of nannies wasn't really something I was proud of. I guess I told myself that if it was my turn to be a parent, I'd be a more involved one. Eventually, my career path took evolved in such a way that I ended up becoming a training and development expert. This was a career I eventually gave up after 10 years to become a fulltime wife and mom. And now, I can say, I've found my place...I wouldn't want to be anywhere or doing anything else.
