Vista! Not as good as everyone thinks then!

So anybody else heard about the security flaw in Vista then?
Appears that Microsoft revealed yesterday that there is a MAJOR security flaw in Vista that can allow your PC to be hijacked , if that wasn't bad enough the hijacker can delete ANY files that are on your PC!
Considering it took Microshaft about 2 years to 'fix' XP after it was released, wonder how long it'll take them to fix Vista.
So are you still that excited about switching to Vista?
Are you still going to switch to Vista as soon as possible?

Yeah i heard that Vista has a weak security system . I want to change to vista but i heard it's to big . I takes almost 7GB . But XP is working fine . For microsoft is something normal to have a lot of problems.

Got to take into consideration also that Vista needs a top-end processor etc. to work really efficiently... Installation takes closer to 9GB, but that's dependant on which Vista edition you opt for.
As a Microsoft Partner I am really glad that I didn't switch to Vista...Give it a year or two! ;-)

Oopsie, Microsoft. I've long thought that microsoft should employ a team of hacker to rip their products to shreds before they are released to the unsuspecting public. Once the hackers have finished, microsoft could then fix the software before releasing it. Quite a concept, eh?
Because Microsoft is notorious for releasing flawed products, I have a steadfast rule to never purchase software until it has been on the market for at least a year. This gives them sufficient time to be hacked apart and fix their software before I even mess with it.

Nice idea... although probably not far from the truth... rumours abound that MS employ hackers to break into their OS's...shame they don't do it very well!!
Although I have read some reports from "Ethical Hackers" who've found more ways into Vista(probably more than I've had hot dinners even!!) than there are in XP(fully upto date).

I work with computers and I find it's always best to wait for them to fix bugs in the new operating systems before switching to them. I work for the ARMY and they don't jump right into a new operating system either. At least not at any of the bases I've worked on. Have you switched to it yet?

Hi Mergl81..... quite rightly so too... I've worked for the MOD in the past and most of their O/S's are customised around Linux based systems anyway... pretty sure that most of the US's DOD systems are likewise.. and no I have no intention of switching for at least a year or so..... says a lot when a Certified Microsoft Partner(3 years now) won't be happy to switch to Vista! ;-0

I think it silly that everyone relates bugs to stuff that Microsoft releases. Tons of technology is released with bugs, that's just how it ends up happening. People are always pushing to meet a release date and the bugs are hammered out afterwards. It's not a good thing, but that's how things end up going. It's not related only to Microsoft. As for Vista, I don't have the money to upgrade right now and also wait until things are out for awhile. I'll probably upgrade once I upgrade my computer.

I've never tried it myself but have seen it in some of my friends' computers and for me it's not more than a copy of WinXP with a new interface/theme.
It may have some kind of new features, because I think it wouldn't be worthed to release a new version of the OS if it's has nothing better then the last but for me it's not anything special.

First off, they charge way too much to upgrade a commonly not ready piece of software. I'm not saying I refuse to use windows. I won't be upgrading until I have to.

Check out some of the reports on this....although Microsoft only admitted it last night, the problem seems to be partially with the IE7 on Vista.... not the IE7 that you can upgrade to in XP...although both versions of IE7 are notoriously slow due mostly to the phishing filters...

I haven't heard about it - but to be honest it doesn't surprise me. Every single microsoft platform has "flaws" when it comes out.
In the past I've waited a good year before even thinking about upgrading. Especially after having advice from a close friend who is a computer technician ... he upgraded his computer on the first day of either 98 or 2000 [i can't remember now] and he had a lot of dramas with flaws and someone even managed to get under his many firewalls and into his system. Which made me be wary that if someone who supposedly knows what they are doing is unable to stop this ... imagine what it could have done to my operating system!
Realistically - I don't see why people have to do it the same day as it's released ... it's not like the software on your computer is begging you to do it and won't work until you do.
If I was a hacker I would be into finding out Vistas flaws in the first few days/weeks and causing all sorts of havoc while people are unexpecting it.
Just because a product is new and flashy and had a giant launch doesn't mean that it's safe for your computer.

I too always wait a while before upgrading....for my personal PC's I don't think I upgraded to XP until almost 18 months after it was released....work ones had to be on XP as soon as it came out....bit difficult to sell XP if you can't show your customers what it's like! LOL
It was probably 2000 or ME that your friend had problems with... they were both rife with problems upon release.
Shame that Microsoft don't follow the adage of... if it ain't broke then don't fix it!
I do know of "ethical hackers" who've already un-earthed even more flaws in Vista..... of course Microshaft won't bother releasing the details until it gets more public...
