is it a good idea to use coffee to energise you when you haven't slept?

Nope, it is usually better having a nap. But in some cases you may find more useful stimulate your brain listening to music instead of drinking coffee. How? Read this article... http://anabubula.com/node/26

Coffee is supposed to 'wake us up' but too much of it can be a bad thing (create headache, chest pain and other similar effects). I am speaking from a personal point of view. I cannot have more than 2 cups of coffee everyday or else I would have a real hard time sleeping at night. It is different for some people like others are actually only able to sleep if they've had coffee. Ironic! So hey, whatever works best for you, go for it. Keep healthy! :)

Caffiene is a stimulant, it will give you a kick start, however, too much is bad. Better to use a high energy drink, it still contains caffiene but usually has electrolytes as well

Coffee or any other dink for energy will result in a quick pick me up, then a "crash" The best thing as you know is sleep. If you are at work or such, and are not rested, try a quick walk, roll the window down is you are in the car for the fresh air.

wouldn't the walk tire you even more?
